The maps of BF2042 are under constant criticism from players. Now EA DICE reveals how they plan to rethink two of the levels.
The much criticised multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2042 does not have an easy standing in the community. Many critics even deny the game the basic design characteristics of a good Battlefield and plead for its cancellation.
EA DICE, however, apparently does not want to throw in the towel yet. The developers collected a lot of feedback from players in order to iron out the existing weaknesses of Battlefield 2042. One of the major areas of improvement is the map design. Now they are giving a detailed insight into how they want to improve the levels.
There is a lot of truth in the players’ criticism. Battlefield 2042 is released unfinished.
More coverage, less idling
The huge 128-player maps were a big advertising promise, but it read better on paper than it manifested in the reality played. Minutes of walking and hardly any cover between the target points often caused frustration and slowed down the fun of the game.
In a new (blog post) EA DICE shows how they plan to improve the two particularly hard-hit maps Kaleidoscope and New Beginning. The fan site BF Bulletin summarises the images of the new objectives, alignment and cover:

We see more cargo containers and other objects at the aiming points and various open areas. DICE is also moving the objective points closer together on the maps to shorten the walking distances in between.
The changes are set to be released this summer as part of Season 1.
Is Battlefield 2042 still salvageable?
It remains questionable whether Battlefield 2042 can turn things around with this cadence. On Steam, an average of only 2,000 players are still playing at the same time. It could be that many players will give the shooter another chance with far-reaching improvements, but that is by no means certain.
Season 1 for BF2042 is to be launched much later in the summer of 2022. This is the remaining hope of those fans who have not yet written off the game. Meanwhile, leaks of Battlefield 7 have already appeared on the internet, which is now said to have gone into pre-production:
