A new developer video reveals more about the next updates and long-term plans. The game will continue to be supported after Season 4.

Battlefield 2042 is still struggling. The predecessors of the shooter have at times clearly outstripped its player numbers, such as Battlefield 1 most recently. DICE apparently wants to continue delivering updates, improvements and new content for longer, as a new developer video including (blog entry) now shows. We summarise for you what is contained in it.

Update as of November 11, 16:00: Dataminer Temporyal has found clues about the new map

Game Pass, Classes, Map Reworks

If you want to watch the video for yourself first, you can find it right here. Further down we will break down the most important information.

Game Pass Release

Unexpectedly, it has been announced that Battlefield 2042 will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and to EA Play subscribers at the launch of Season 3, which is expected to be in late November 2022. This is probably in the hope of attracting new interested parties to the shooter. They are currently declining again, only about (4,000 players are currently online at the same time every day)

More info on classes

(Because of the division into classes, some specialist skills will be revised or replaced.)

announced, after extensive testing, the developers have decided to introduce another element: weapon abilities. Although the introduction of classes is not intended to restrict access to weapon classes, this will give certain weapons an advantage for the class in question:

  • Storm Soldiers: Storm Rifles are quicker to fire after sprints.
  • Pioneers: Universal weapons have improved loading behaviour.
  • Supply soldiers: Light machine guns have extra magazines and are more efficient when combined with bipods.
  • Scouts: Can hold their breath longer with sniper rifles and take better aim.

New map reworks

More maps are to be reworked in Season 3. Starting with Update 3.1, which is to contain an improved version of Manifest  Team HQs are moved closer to the rest of the battlefield and redundant areas of the map are removed. The paths between the flags have been revised and new cover options added.

With Update 3.2, Umbruch will also receive a general overhaul in early 2023  The biggest change here is probably that the oil rig will be moved much closer to the other areas of the map. In addition, some conquest points have been removed or moved and generally the playability for infantry has been improved. Revised ice and snow shaders also provide a new look.

More plans for Season 3

With full details Season 3 will be revealed later, but there is already some info about what we can expect:

  • New Vault weapons: At the beginning of Season 3, the weapon selection will be expanded by a light machine gun and an assault rifle from Battlefield Portal. More Vault weapons are scheduled to appear throughout the Season.

  • New map: It is no secret that a new map will be released with Season 3. But the developers hint in the video that this time it will go to Sweden. As the well-known dataminer Temporyal has found out, the map will be called Spearhead and will let us fight for a weapons factory in Lapland:

  • Improved Event: After the launch of the Liquidators event in Season 2, Season 3 will also bring a new event. You should be able to unlock more cosmetic objects for free than with the Liquidators.

What happens next?

While plans for a third and fourth season have been known for some time, it was previously unclear what would happen after that for Battlefield 2042. Now the developers announce that they will continue to support the shooter with new content:

We are also pleased to announce that pre-production has begun on new content that will be released next year after Season 4. We are far from done with Battlefield 2042.

What content exactly is planned is not yet detailed here. However, since pre-production has already begun, it seems to be more elaborate updates. It is possible that we will get at least one more year with several seasons.
