All the content and new features of Update 3.2

Class system

For many players the complete abandonment of the class system at the release of BF 2042 was a big disappointment. With Update 3.2, they now want to let the classic role distribution return in part.

(All Specialists will be part of a class in the future and should fulfil corresponding roles on the battlefield.)
(All Specialists will be part of a class in the future and should fulfil corresponding roles on the battlefield.)

All Specialists will be divided into four classes for this purpose: Assault Soldier, Engineer, Supply and Reconnaissance and are to be specialised in certain tasks:

  • Storm Soldiers (Mackay, Dozer, Sundance, Zain): Are found on the front line and take out enemy infantry at short ranges. As an assault soldier, you (unsurprisingly) storm enemy objectives and take out their defences.
  • Engineer (Boris, Crawford, Lis): Are indispensable to the success of the vehicles. They establish defensive positions, repair allied and destroy enemy vehicles.
  • Supply/Medics (Falck, Angel, Irish): Assist their allies in all tasks by supplying ammunition, suppressing enemy attacks, and healing their teammates.
  • Scouts (Paik, Caspar, Rao): Avoid frontal assault and rather seek flank positions for themselves and the team. Use their equipment to disrupt enemy systems and share information about enemy positions.

In order to enact the role distribution, some gadgets and equipment are restricted to certain classes These include ammunition boxes, defibrillators, spawn beacons, rocket launchers and the repair tool. All weapons are still freely available for all classes, Weapon Capabilities but offer advantages for the respective appropriate weapon types.

Map Rework: Wrap

Umbruch had many weaknesses in the original version, most of which are now to be eliminated with a rework. Several areas and aspects of the map have been adjusted:

  • A small settlement has been built on the previously empty Glacier providing additional cover for infantry. A new conquest point has also been added.
  • The oil drilling platform has been moved much closer to the rest of the map, as you can see in the pictures above. There are also additional paths onto the platform, and it itself has also been adapted with new paths and cover options.
  • Inside the glacier you will now find a Snow Cave with a crashed helicopter, which forms a new conquest point.
  • The workers” settlement in the west has been reinforced with additional fortifications, and the distance between conquest points has also been reduced.

New weapons and gadgets

Update 3.2 adds more weapons to the arsenal of All-Out Warfare modes that were previously only available in Battlefield Portal. This time, a DMR, an assault rifle and a submachine gun are included:

In addition to the new Portal weapons, the class system also makes some gadgets from past Battlefield titles available to certain classes. These include the FGM-148 Javelin rocket launcher, the Claymore mine, and the EOD bot.

Thermal Visors

Update 3.2 introduces thermal visors for various weapons and situations in Battlefield 2042. The three new visors are optimised for different situations and can be equipped with the following weapons:

  • TR-1 Thermal 1.25x: 12m Auto, AC-42, AK-24, AM40, Avancys, Ghostmaker R10, K30, LCMG, M5A3, MCS-880, MP9, NVK-S22, PBX-45, PKP-BP, PP-29, Rorsch Mk-4 and SFAR-M GL
  • T4 Thermal 2,5x: AC-42, AM40, Avancys, BSV-M, DM7, GVT 45-70, M5A3, PKP-BP, Rorsch Mk-4, SFAR-M GL, SVK, VCAR
  • 2038 Thermal 6x: BSV-M, DM7, DXR-1, NTW-50, Rorsch Mk-4, SVK, SWS-10

With thermal imaging optics, you can quickly spot enemy soldiers even in cluttered or poorly lit environments. A big disadvantage is usually that you can be easily blinded. Thermal visors have been present in previous Battlefield games and most recently even found their way into Battlefield 5.

    Other Features and Innovations

In addition to numerous bug fixes and improvements, there are a few other new features of Update 3.2 that are worth mentioning:

    • New Silencer: The shotgun NVK-S22, which was added to the arsenal in Season 3, can now be equipped with a silencer.
    • Battle Tank Defence System: The two tanks M1A5 and T28 can now also equip an Active Protection System, which destroys all projectiles fired at the vehicles for a short time before impact.
(The defence system helps enormously if you are in a critical situation.)

    • Under the radar: If you are less than 30 metres from the ground with helicopters or aircraft, you cannot be detected by enemy guided missiles.
    • UI changes: As part of the introduction of the class system, the entry screen has also been extensively adapted and improved.
