What can we expect?
This year, the developers are trying to focus mainly on the strengths of the game series. Therefore, there is no single-player campaign. With a strong focus on multiplayer, they want to keep the fans happy. They will also do without a Battle Royale, as this went down badly with the fans.
However, the official gameplay trailer should provide a lot of atmosphere:
There will be many typical Battlefield elements as well as innovations. So we have our normal classes but also new specialists. On top of that, some popular maps will also return as part of Battlefield Portal:
- Battle of the Bulge
- Arica Harbor
- Noshahr Channels
- Cape Frontier
- El Alamein
- Valparaiso
In the beta we were also able to take a closer look at the first means of transportation. A list with all known vehicles and aircrafts can be found here.
Battlefield Portal
With Battlefield Portal, the series wants to connect several parts. You can continue your game progress and try out all kinds of crazy things. For example
battles between modern soldiers and troops from the Second World War are possible. If you want to learn more about Battlefield Portal, you should read our article about it.
Platforms
Battlefield 2042 will be released for the PC, Xbox and PlayStation. However, there are some restrictions for the last-gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For example, instead of 128 players, you’ll only have 64 on the maps.
For PC players and owners of the new Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5, large battles with 64v64 players are possible. In addition, EA has tested crossplay. Therefore, it is likely that players will be able to play cross-platform.
Ranked mode & Esport
Battlefield 2042 will not offer a ranked mode or anything similar at release. However, the developers are willing to include competitive modes if that’s what the gaming community wants. Why EA and DICE have made this decision, we explain here.

Leveling in Battlefield 2042 can be very tough. However, a small throwing object can help: The environment sensor not only brings you massive XP, it also helps the whole team. Global-esports.news tells you how to use the sensor optimally.
To level up in Battlefield 2042, you usually need 2 matches. One match lasts at least 30 minutes. Accordingly, it can be tough to unlock the best weapons in the game.
This is where the environment sensor comes into play. You unlock it at level 22 – a process that is quicker with other XP farming methods. Once you have the environmental sensor, however, you’ll level up even faster than before. This is because you can add it to the other farming methods as well.
The best part is that the environmental sensor is easy to use and the more action there is, the more effective it becomes. The function of the sensor is also extremely helpful for your team and will directly help you win more matches.
The strongest loadout with the environmental sensor
The biggest disadvantage of the environmental sensor is that it replaces your grenade slot. This loadout not only helps you get around that disadvantage – it makes you one of the most versatile soldiers on the battlefield:
- Specialist:In: Sundance
- Primary weapon: PP-29
- Secondary Weapon: G57
- Throw object: Ambient sensor
- Gadget: Ammo Box
Why is this loadout so good?
Thanks to the gadget, Sundance is the perfect specialist choice. The grenade belt not only replaces the anti-personnel grenade you have to give up because of the environmental sensor – the grenade belt can also be used for anti-tank and as an EMP field.
Thus, you can defend yourself against all vehicles and other specialist gadgets. Because the grenade belt’s charges are self-replenishing, you’ll also stay in the action at all times.
This versatility is underlined by the PP-29. It is currently the best submachine gun and the most flexible weapon in the game. Accordingly, it can be used well in any situation. This also makes it easier to use Sundance’s wingsuit very aggressively.
Thanks to the ammo box, you’ll always get a new environmental sensor. Your ammo is also refreshed this way. This way you never have to back out of the action
The environmental sensor is fun, helps the team and you
What makes the loadout so good? The loadout around the environmental sensor shines for several reasons:
PRO | CONTRA |
---|---|
Thanks to Sundance, you'll be flexibly strong against enemy soldiers, vehicles and gadgets. | The motion sensor replaces the grenade. |
Aggressive gameplay is possible and recommended. | Without Sundance, your options in combat are more limited. |
The sensor marks enemies within a radius on the mini-map of your whole team. | Ammo box is not a must, but it makes the loadout much better. |
You have two environmental sensors at your disposal. This way you can mark most of the enemies even on the biggest checkpoints. | You can't heal yourself with Sundance and Ammo Box. |
The ammo box will immediately give you back a spent environmental sensor. | PP-29 is not the strongest weapon for the distance. |
You get 5 XP for each enemy that is marked. | Loadout loses effectiveness if you're not in the middle of the biggest action. |
Each marked enemy killed by your team counts as an assist. This gives you 50 XP each. | Other loadouts are stronger against vehicles. |
You get 50 XP for each enemy you kill yourself. | Motion sensor is available only from level 22. |
The environment sensor continues to mark even after your death. | |
After several marks and assists you will get 1,000 XP each as a reward. |
So you get one assist for every enemy killed in the radius of the environmental sensor. Each assist gives you as much XP as a kill – even if you didn’t even see the enemy yourself.
With this method, it’s not uncommon to have more assists alone than entire squads combined. Thus, you level up very quickly.
How do I make the best use of the environmental sensor? Because the environment sensor gives the most XP and info when the action is at its highest, you should always stay in the battle.
So always try to be at the most contested points on the map. Then throw your two environmental sensors so that together they cover as large an area as possible.
Then you can either take an active part in the battle yourself, or play a bit more passively and throw more environmental sensors with the ammo box. Because the sensor will work even after you die, you will have helped the team in any case.
This isn’t just XP raining down on you. Your team thanks you because the info on the mini-map helps them take positions and defend them better. This leads to fun, action-packed gameplay. And more matches won.
Have you tried this loadout yet? Do you enjoy this style of play? And what weapon are you still dying to unlock? Let us know in the comments.
It will be exciting to see how the game develops after the bumpy start. The developers of Battlefield 2042 have already announced: New update coming next week.
Fast leveling, XP farming in Battlefield 2042
You want to level up as fast as possible to unlock all weapons and vehicles in Battlefield 2042? We’ll tell you the best tricks to farm XP.
Earn XP quickly with the specialist Casper
To properly exploit the leveling method with Casper, it’s best to play the Breakthrough game mode, because only in this mode there is a clear front line, where all enemies are usually located. In fact, you need as many enemies as possible in one place.
Once the game is started, choose the specialist Casper and find a protected place near the front line where you can hide. This can be an interior room or just a large bush – the main thing is that the enemies won’t find you so quickly.
Then all you have to do is launch Casper’s reconnaissance drone and diligently mark all the enemies at the front – this happens automatically when you aim the drone at the enemies. It’s best to fly as high as possible so that the enemies don’t see you. We were only shot down once in our last round and were able to fly around and mark enemies quite comfortably the rest of the time.
For every enemy you tag, you’ll receive 5 experience points, and for every enemy your teammates tag, you’ll also receive an additional 50 XP. Marking enemies will also reward you with medal ribbons, which will give you even more experience points. You can get the following awards with the drone as Casper:
Wingman Ribbon: Received for assists (enemies you tag that are killed count as assists).
Recon Ribbon: You get this for spotting enemies.
We got over 14,000 XP in one round just by playing with the drone, even though our team lost the match.
Do XP farm servers still work in Battlefield Portal?
If you open the server browser in Battlefield Portal, you will probably find many servers with “XP Farm” in the title. However, we recommend that you do not join these servers.
Developer Dice has reduced the experience points you can get on Portal servers shortly after the release of the Early Access version of Battlefield 2042. The XP farm servers that are still online now simply rely on unbalanced teams: one team is sent to the field without weapons and thus serves as “XP fodder”, while the other team is fully armed and can thus mow down the unarmed team.
If you join such an XP farm server, there’s a good chance that you’ll end up in the unarmed team and thus hardly earn any experience points yourself. Therefore, it’s best to use the trick with Casper’s reconnaissance drone if you want to level up quickly.
