The next Battlefield wants to finally make veterans of the series really happy again. Here you can read what is known about the shooter so far.
After both Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042 caused great disappointment among BF fans, especially at their respective releases, salvation is now at hand: the new Battlefield finally wants to return to the roots and old strengths of the series – at least that’s what the lead developer promises.
But what can we really expect in the shooter sequel? In this article, we summarize what is known so far about Battlefield 6.
Where can I find gameplay?
As part of the Battlefield Labs announcement in February 2025, EA showed gameplay scenes from the new Battlefield for the first time. You can find the clip at the end of this video from minute 04:40:
In addition to this official material, there is now plenty of leaked gameplay from the BF Labs playtest on the net. We summarize in our preview video what these gameplay leaks already reveal.
Can I participate in the playtest?
There will be extensive alpha and beta tests for the new Battlefield. With Battlefield Labs, EA allows you to get involved in the development of Battlefield 6 at an early stage. We’ll explain the details and how to register!
Release: When will Battlefield 6 be released?
The new Battlefield will be released in November 2025 according to current knowledge.
EA traditionally releases the major installments of the series around Christmas, usually sometime between October 20 and November 20, which will most likely be the case again in 2025. Nevertheless, a postponement into the first quarter of 2026 remains within the realm of possibility.
An official release date has not yet been announced, but EA plans to provide the first information in spring 2025.
Campaign: Is there a single-player mode?
Yes, the new Battlefield will have a story campaign, which is primarily being developed by the EA studios Motive (Dead Space Remake, Star Wars: Squadrons) and Criterion (Need for Speed Unbound, BF5 Firestorm).
The story is said to be about a conflict between the two military alliances NATO and Pax Armata. According to rumors, the USA will also be the scene of the fighting, including L.A. and New York.
Studios: Who is developing Battlefield 6?
In total, four major development studiosare involved in the new Battlefield, as EA confirms. These are:
- DICE (BF2042, BF5, BF4, BF3): The creators and original developers of Battlefield are once again in charge of the multiplayer.
- Motive (Dead Space Remake, Star Wars: Squadrons): The Canadian EA studio is responsible for the single-player campaign of the new Battlefield installment and is helping with maps.
- Criterion (NfS Unbound, NfS Heat, BF5: Firestorm): The racing experts from the British studio are fully supporting Motive in the development of the solo campaign.
- Ripple Effect (BF2042, Jedi: Fallen Order): Formerly known as DICE L.A., Respawn founder Vince Zampella is developing the Battle Royale and Gauntlet here.
The development time for the new Battlefield is estimated to be four to four and a half years.
This is significantly more than was invested in previous offshoots: previously, two to a maximum of three years between Battlefield games was the norm.
Battle Royale: Does Battlefield 6 have a BR mode?
It is considered certain that the new Battlefield will have a Battle Royale component, which is probably (analogous to Warzone in CoD) decoupled as a Free2Play spin.
According to Dataminer Temporyal the process is quite classic:
- Quasi-successor to Battlefield 5 Firestorm
- Teams of 1-4 players
- Jump with parachute
- Shrinking fire circle
- Loot with rarity levels
- Respawn option, vehicle unlocks
- Optional mini-missions
The BR is not created by DICE, who are fully focused on the multiplayer, but by co-developer Ripple Effect.
Under the working title “Gauntlet”,but supposedly an additional variant is still in the works, which also takes place on the large BR map.
In Gauntlet, individual missions are the focus of a tournament format.
Teams have to take control of tanks, win a CTF round, secure secret data carriers or eliminate enemy VIPs.
The performance of one’s own team determines advancement to the next round, until one squad is declared the winner at the end – comparable to the gameplay of The Finals.
In which setting does Battlefield 6 take place?
The new Battlefield returns to a modern contemporary scenario. The conflict of the game is therefore set in the near future and is very reminiscent of BF3.
Here are the first official pictures:
Accordingly, realistic military hardware awaits us: weapons and vehicles will be from the present or near future, without drifting too much into sci-fi. At the center of the scenario is a conflict between the fictitious military alliance Pax Armata and NATO forces
Leaks also provided clear indications that the locations include Egypt, Gibraltar, Hollywood in L.A. and New York City.
What weapons are available in Battlefield 6?
Due to the modern military setting, many weapons that players know from BF3 and BF4, the Modern Warfare series, or from Squad, Counter-Strike or Ready or Not will reappear.
These include classics such as one of the infamous Kalashnikov assault rifles from the AK series, the MP5, the 1911 pistol or the G36 from the German army. In terms of vehicles, we can expect battle tanks, helicopters, jets and other military equipment.
From a reliable source, we already have an extensive list of weapons and vehicles in the new Battlefield.
Are there classes in Battlefield 6 again?
Yes. After the failed Specialist system of BF2042, the new Battlefield is returning to the traditional class system
So there are no heroes or anything like that. Instead, it will be possible to choose from roles such as Assault, Support, Recon, etc., along with the corresponding class equipment, as an anonymous soldier.
Will Battlefield 6 have 128 players again?
No. The new Battlefield returns to the traditional size of 64 players The experiment with double the number of players in BF2042 is now finally considered a failure.
At release, Battlefield 6 is supposed to offer about ten multiplayer maps, all designed for 64-player battles.
Higher player numbers (and a significantly larger game world) are only conceivable in Ripple Effect’s Battle Royale mode (or rather in the Gauntlet spin-off).
Is there map destruction in Battlefield 6?
The much-neglected destruction system of Battlefield is supposed to take a big step forward in the new installment.
According to insider information, there will be destruction based on the caliber of the respective projectile, reminiscent of Rainbow Six: Siege.
Buildings and objects on the maps will therefore be broken again in a detailed and physically correct manner. This is impressively demonstrated by the first clip from the pre-alpha version:
The rubble interacts physically with the players and has an immediate impact on gameplay. One clip shows a soldier being crushed by debris, while another shows a tank being damaged by falling masonry.
What game modes does Battlefield 6 have?
According to current information, the new Battlefield includes the following variants:
- Multiplayer: Classic PvP battles with infantry and vehicles between NATO and Pax Armata
- Conquest (confirmed)
- Breakthrough (confirmed)
- Rush (rumor)
- Singleplayer: Story campaign in which the military alliances NATO and Pax Armata play a role
- Battle Royale: A standalone Free2Play spinoff
- Gauntlet: A tournament mode on the Battle Royale map
Further projects: Battlefield 6 relies entirely on the service model and is to be regularly supplied with content after launch. EA is also planning a progressive expansion of the BF universe across various media for the time after release, so films, comics and more would be conceivable.
