As reported by well-known leaker Tom Henderson, the next Battlefield is in production. And a lot will be different from Battlefield 2042, they say.

Development on the next Battlefield has now begun. This is reported by industry insider Tom Henderson in a (article on Xfire). According to the article, the game is in the early concept phase.

According to a developer, the team has learned “important lessons” from Battlefield 2042, which was unpopular with fans. Battlefield 7 is said to have been given the green light by EA, even though its predecessor was “internally judged to be a failure”, according to the report.

This is what Henderson has to say about Battlefield 7:

  • Many features from Battlefield 2042 are not expected to return – but so far it’s unclear exactly which elements might be meant. Henderson suspects the player count of 128 participants and the often criticised Specialists system could be affected.
  • A lot of player feedback is currently being sought on the class system. It is speculated that EA has moved away from the plan of a real hero shooter. For example, a hybrid system of class and hero system would be conceivable.
  • According to Henderson, the setting is certain: Battlefield 7 will once again serve a modern military scenario in the near future. A return to historical settings like in Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1 therefore seems to be out of the question.
    • Battlefield 7 is currently said to be in the so-called pre-production phase. This is when the game concept is usually worked out to define an underlying design and goal for the game before the first prototypes are programmed.

    And what about Battlefield 2042?

According to Henderson, while most of the development team has shifted its focus to Battlefield 7, a “strong and dedicated team continues to work on new content for Battlefield 2042.”

The roadmap includes a total of four Battle Passes with four new Specialists, plus Exposure, a new map has already been revealed to be released this summer (after the launch of Season 1 was postponed):

Henderson assumes that new modes, weapons, vehicles and maps are definitely coming. There are also indications that the Specialists system will be reworked and more closely resemble the old class system. In March, EA had announced that some of the previous maps would be radically redesigned to allow for a better game flow.
