The next Battlefield wants to finally make veterans of the series really happy again. Here you can read what is known about the shooter so far.

After both Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042 caused great disappointment among BF fans, especially at their respective releases, salvation is now at hand: the new Battlefield finally wants to return to the roots and old strengths of the series – at least that’s what the lead developer promises.

But what can we really expect in the shooter sequel? In this article, we summarize what is known so far about Battlefield 7.

What will the next Battlefield be called?

Officially, no name has been announced for the new Battlefield yet

The numbering in the series has not necessarily been consistent in the past: After Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1 followed in 2016. Two years later, Battlefield 5 was released, followed by Battlefield 2042 in 2021.

If you include all the main releases of the series, the new Battlefield would be the 17th installment of the series. Meanwhile, we can only speculate about the name. That’s why we’re calling it Battlefield 7 in our articles.

Release: When is Battlefield 7 coming out?

The new Battlefield will be released in November 2025 according to current knowledge.

EA traditionally releases the major installments of the series around Christmas, usually sometime between October 20 and November 20, which will most likely be the case again in 2025.

An official release date has not yet been set, but EA plans to announce the first information in spring 2025.

Studios: Who is developing Battlefield 7?

A total of four major development studiosare involved in the new Battlefield, as EA has confirmed. These are:

  • DICE (BF2042, BF5): The creators and original developers of Battlefield are once again in charge of the multiplayer.
  • Motive (Dead Space Remake, Star Wars: Squadrons): The Canadian EA studio is responsible for the single-player campaign of the new Battlefield installment.
  • Criterion (NfS Unbound, NfS Heat, BF5: Firestorm): The British studio’s racing experts are providing full support for the development of the campaign and multiplayer.
  • Ripple Effect (BF2042, Jedi: Fallen Order): Formerly known as DICE L.A., Respawn founder Vince Zampella is developing a third mode here – reportedly a Battle Royale.

The development time for the new Battlefield is estimated to be four to four and a half years.

This is significantly more than was invested in previous offshoots: so far, two to a maximum of three years between Battlefield games has been the norm.

What is the setting of Battlefield 7?

According to initial insider information, the new Battlefield is returning to a modern scenario. The game’s conflict is therefore set in the near future, between 2027 and 2030, and should be stylistically similar to BF3 and BF4.

Accordingly, we can most likely expect realistic weaponry: weapons and vehicles will be from the present or near future, without drifting too far into sci-fi. At the center of the scenario is a conflict between a private military company and NATO forces.

Here are the first official artworks from EA with a glimpse of the setting:

Will there be classes in Battlefield 7 again?

Yes, after the failed Specialist system of BF2042, the new Battlefield returns to the traditional class system

So it will be possible again to choose from roles such as Assault, Support, Recon, etc., including the corresponding class equipment, as an anonymous soldier.

Incidentally, Battlefield’s big rival Delta Force is taking a different approach by deliberately adopting the specialists system!

Will Battlefield 7 have 128 players again?

No, the new Battlefield returns to the traditional size of64 players The experiment with double the number of players in BF2042 is now finally considered a failure.

At release, Battlefield 7 will offer about ten multiplayer maps, all designed for 64-player battles.

Higher player numbers and a significantly larger game world are only conceivable in the Battle Royale mode with the project name “Gauntlet” from Ripple Effect.

Is there map destruction in Battlefield 7?

The Battlefield destruction system, which has been severely neglected of late, is set to take a big step forward in the new installment.

According to insider information, there will be destruction based on the caliber of the respective projectile, reminiscent of Rainbow Six: Siege.

Buildings and objects on the maps will therefore be broken down in a detailed and physically correct way again.

What game modes does Battlefield 7 have?

According to current information, the new Battlefield includes the following variants:

  • Multiplayer: Classic PvP battles with infantry and vehicles
  • Singleplayer: Story campaign in which mercenaries fight against NATO
  • Battle Royale: A standalone Free2Play spinoff with the project name “Gauntlet”

Further projects: Battlefield 7 relies entirely on the service model and is to be regularly supplied with content after launch. EA is also planning a progressive expansion of the BF universe across various media for the time after release, so films, comics and more would be conceivable.
