I wonder if that will work. Electronic Arts is determined to stay true to the series after the rather mixed success of Battlefield 2042. A new reboot is to be made. The company is currently working flat out on a new spin-off that is supposed to redefine the entire franchise. Big plans that have gone wrong before.

In the latest quarterly report, CEO Andrew Wilson announced that the upcoming Battlefield game will be designed as a “reinterpretation of Battlefield as a truly connected ecosystem”. Unfortunately, no further details on this approach were revealed. However, it could suggest that EA is following the example of Call of Duty and combining different gaming experiences into a single hub. Various studios are responsible for the development of the new Battlefield. Among them are DICERidgeline Games and Ripple Effect Studios DICE is leading the main development, while Ridgeline Games is responsible for the campaign. The relatively new Ripple Effect Studio is working on a standalone Battlefield experience that may be integrated into the main game.

Although Battlefield 2042 was already a reimagining of sorts, replacing the class system with unique characters and reworking the map design to allow for subsequent changes, it unfortunately resulted in the worst Metacritic score in series history to date.

Will everything be different in the next Battlefield?

The CEO of EA, Andrew Wilson, admitted afterwards that mistakes were made in the development of the last Battlefield games. However, a repetition of these mistakes has been ruled out for the future. Nevertheless, fans hoping for a return to the roots of the series should temper their expectations somewhat. Officially, no new Battlefield game has been announced yet. However, it is known that EA is working on a new part and has even appointed Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn, as the new franchise boss for this purpose.
