When does the new season of BF2042 start and what new content can we expect? You can find all the information in this overview.
After its meagre launch in November 2021, Battlefield 2042 began its arduous ascent. The goal: Finally a gaming experience as Battlefield fans would have actually wished for. By the way, DICE shows how this is supposed to work in the video!
The first step on this journey was Season 1 Zero Hour and the big update 1.2 with many big and small improvements. Now Season 2 is upon us and the hopes and expectations of many players are high: Can Battlefield turn the tide and live up to fan expectations?
We summarise here what we know so far about Season 2.
Table of Contents
Start date
So far there are no official details from the manufacturer DICE and EA as to when Season 2 will start. However, the timing so far suggests a launch in September 2022.
This would also be a good time strategically, because in October a big competitor enters the ring with CoD Modern Warfare 2! So launching Season 2 in September would give Battlefield a time advantage.
Enddatu
Also there are no solid statements about this so far, but the developers have confirmed that seasons in BF2042 should always last 12 weeks. According to the current state, we assume that Season 2 will end in December 2022.
New Maps
In a livestream from developer DICE, there was new information regarding the maps in Season 2, with lead level designer Shashank Uchil confirming that there will once again only be one new map in Season 2. After the new map Exposure from Season 1, the map output will not be increased further, as many players had hoped.
The new map is said to be less open than the lineup we”ve been used to in BF2042 and to put a lot of emphasis on CQB, or confined space combat.
Numerous cover options should make the map enjoyable for infantry players, level designer Uchil tells us. Most launch maps have been criticised by players for the many open areas that leave foot soldiers defenceless.
New weapons & content
Officially confirmed so far is a new Battle Pass with the usual 100 levels and a premium track for about 10 euros. As in Season 1, we also expect new weapons, vehicles and a specialist. However, there are no details yet.
We remember: In Season 1 Ewelina Lis, a new vehicle defence expert with guided missiles, came into play, along with the R10 crossbow, the BSV-M precision rifle and the two stealth helicopters RAH-68 Huron and YG-99 Hannibal.
Improvements
After the reworked map Kaleidoscope in update 1.2, it is now Renewal”s turn with a rework The map will get a general overhaul in Season 2 to ensure a better game flow. Orbital, Manifest and Hourglass will also follow at a later date, according to DICE. No other changes for Season 2 have been announced at this time.
What”s NOT coming in Season 2
In the livestream with DICE developers, a few points are also addressed that are repeatedly demanded by fans but will not or cannot be implemented in the near future. Definitely eliminated are the following features in Season 2:
- Server Browser: DICE still has the topic on their mind, but does not want to comment further at the moment.
- Specialist-Rework: The Specialist system will apparently remain in place and will only be further improved or slightly changed, a return of the classes seems to be out of the question.
- Rush: The popular game mode from previous BF parts will – at least for now – not come for regular multiplayer and will remain exclusive to Portal mode.
