A dark mode for the new stun grenades in BF2042 is causing a stir on the net. Many fans are enthusiastic about the idea.

Currently, several videos from Battlefield 2042 are doing the rounds in social media, in which a new effect can be seen: A kind of dark mode for flashbangs! Shooter expert and Youtuber JackFrags, for example, shows how this looks (here in comparison with the normal glare effect):

The new option is available since the start of Season 2 in the menu in the Accessibility Options . There you can change the effect from light to dark.

  • What does this do? Instead of creating the usual glare effect, our image in Dark Mode instead becomes dark as soon as a flash-bang grenade explodes in front of us. Usually, such weapons in shooters have the effect of turning the screen bright white to simulate the effect of the grenade. Players do not gain any advantage from this option; the view of the game is equally blurred.
  • Why is this helpful? As with other dark modes, the option has the purpose of relieving the eyes. Sudden white light can trigger discomfort, migraines or even epileptic seizures, especially in people with photosensitivity. But glare grenades in shooters also usually mean stress for the eye: especially when playing in darkened rooms, glare effects can even become painful.
  • How does the community react? Many users praise developer DICE’s elegant solution to a problem that has existed in the shooter landscape since the days of Counter-Strike. Well-known Battlefield streamer Westie praised the option via Twitter and earned a lot of encouragement:

“This should actually be in every game,” writes one user, while another comments, “No more burnt retinas, it’s awesome!”

In the comments section of JackFrags’ original tweet, this statement gets a lot of encouragement: “Much healthier for the eyes when playing at night. Great feature, thanks for sharing. “

What’s next for Battlefield?

With the launch of Season 2 called Master of Arms the player numbers of BF2042 increased by leaps and bounds – the new maps, weapons and many improvements obviously attracted many players back. The trailer gives a quick overview of what Master of Arms is all about in just over 2 minutes:

But there’s something even bigger on the horizon: with the return of the class system, the developers had announced a very crucial change at the end of August that might even mark a turning point for the heavily criticised game.

Meanwhile, new game director Marcus Lehto is asking Battlefield fans on Twitter for their preferences, experiences and feedback – possibly to lay the first foundations for Battlefield 7!
