2023 there will be no new Call of Duty game. Nevertheless, fans will not go empty-handed: Supposedly there are plans for a story add-on for Modern Warfare 2.
The Call of Duty series is reportedly breaking with tradition
2023: For the first time in 17 years, no new part is to be released, but a replacement may be provided. Instead, a story DLC for Modern Warfare 2 is said to be planned – and the last time there was a single-player add-on for CoD was 20 years ago
Where did the info come from? The info comes from established CoD insider TheGhostOfHope. According to him, the DLC for the single player campaign is set to hit towards the end of 2023. The addon is said to go hand in hand with the largest map package ever in the history of Call of Duty. However, the insider does not provide any further details at this time – such as the story, the scope or the price of the alleged expansion.

How credible is the rumour? Of course, this info is not officially confirmed. However, TheGhostOfHope is considered a reliable source, especially in the CoD scene. The leaker has been hitting the bull’s eye with his predictions for many months and has already correctly predicted the release date of Warzone 2, among other things.
Why the rumour makes sense: The fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be expanded in 2023, not only in terms of multiplayer, would fit in with previous reports. Because fans can most likely not expect a new part of the shooter series in 2023. Activision and Infinity Ward could therefore fill this gap with new content for single-player players.
By the way, the new rumour complements a prediction by industry expert Jason Schreier quite well: In August 2022, Schreier talked about expecting some kind of paid premium content for Modern Warfare 2 in 2023.
For 2023 I’d expect new paid (“premium”) content for Modern Warfare 2, not a brand new Call of Duty. Treyarch is leading the next mainline game, which was delayed to 2024, as Bloomberg reported earlier this year. https://t.co/iLQEgbSt5w

The next Call of Duty, which is currently being developed by Treyarch, is supposed to be released in the winter of 2024 and thematically cover the 2003 Iraq War (our colleagues at GamePro reported).
If the rumour were to prove true, it would be the first time in almost 20 years that a Call of Duty game would get a story update. The last time this was the case was in 2004 with Call of Duty 1: United Offensive.
The most important info on CoD: Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on 20 October 2022 for PC and consoles. The single-player campaign continues the story of Task Force 141 and sends Captain Price, Ghost, Soap and Co. into conflict with Colombian drug cartels. You can get a concrete impression of the story in the following trailer:
Of course, Modern Warfare 2 also comes with a packed multiplayer that offers many familiar modes, but also completely new aspects such as the DMZ mode.
