To shoot safely in Call of Duty: Warzone, practice is necessary. Learn the basics and advanced techniques for using weapons from fists to guns and everything in between.
How to deal damage effectively is one of the most important lessons to learn in Warzone. It is the main skill of the game in the first place. Whether you’re new to Call of Duty or a veteran, if you want to improve your game, you should internalise the guide.
The Shooting Range: Shooting from the Hip
Firing a weapon is done by simply pressing “Fire”, which can be found on a different button depending on the platform. You can find this in the Options menu and set it individually. The weapon can fire single shots or fully automatic bursts and continuous fire.
The rate of fire of each weapon is displayed in the Gunsmith and in most cases at the bottom of the HUD next to the ammunition count.
If you fire the weapon without a sight, you shoot from the hip. However, this makes the weapon shoot inaccurately. However, you have the time advantage because you do not have to aim with the weapon. So decide for yourself whether to fire from the hip – in close combat this can sometimes be the better option.
The shooting range: enemies in the sights or in the scope
In addition to the shoot button, you have a sight button or a range button. With this you switch to the other mode, in which you can precisely aim at your opponents. In almost all cases this is more accurate than shooting from the hip.
Sighting is essential for dealing damage from a distance, especially when the enemy is several hundred metres away on the map. The disadvantages are that it takes you longer to aim, you have a restricted field of vision and you move much slower.
Set Target
Whether you choose to hip fire or aim, you must be aware of the weapon’s recoil. The weapon does not stay still, but moves while firing – especially in continuous fire.
Each weapon has a specific recoil pattern (spray pattern) that you should consider when firing. For example, if the weapon pulls to the left, you must manually compensate for the recoil by moving to the right.
Take a close look at the recoil patterns of your weapons, so you can become real experts and always get the projectiles on target. Each weapon has a special spray pattern that you must learn.
Advanced Tactics: Hip Fire with Aiming and Pre-Aiming
At the start of a melee, try pressing the fire and aim buttons at the same time. This will give you a faster and more accurate first shot. Then continue firing in aiming mode.
Anticipating pre-aiming: If you have an idea of where the enemy is, you can aim your weapon as you move towards the position. In the best case, you can aim accurately at your opponent and eliminate him immediately.
Pre-aiming is also worthwhile if you are going around corners that are on or in buildings. With your weapon on, you are always ready to defend yourself in the best possible way. Of course, in this case your spray pattern must also be correct.
The Weapon Arsenal
Not all weapons are equal: certain types of weapons are better suited for sighting, scopes or hip fire. In addition, effective range at the range is an important point to be aware of.
- Shotguns – Extreme close-range, hip-fire or riflescopes
- Pistols – Close range, scope or hip shot
- Machine Guns – Short range, target acquisition or hip shot.
- Attack rifles – Medium range, with sighting
- Light machine guns -Medium range, with sighting scope
- Tactical rifles – Medium range, aiming at targets
- Shooting Rifles – Long range, aiming at targets.
- Sharpshooting rifles – Extremely long range, aiming at targets.
- Carrier missiles – Any range against technology or large groups
Advanced tactics: laying on the weapon
Another way to reduce recoil is to lay the weapon on top. If you have the possibility to support the weapon, you should take advantage of this. Resting the weapon on the ground is made possible by pressing a button and allows for much more precise shots.
The disadvantage of resting the weapon is that the angle of aim is limited to a maximum of 180 degrees until the weapon is picked up again. In addition, the game character’s head is highly visible in this mode, making him an easy target for enemy fire.
Also make sure that you keep changing your position. If you stay in one place for a long time with your weapon on your head, sooner or later the enemy will notice you and attack you.
Advanced Tactics: Dropshot and Strafing
The best warzone players are a difficult target for their opponents to hit. Two techniques help to maximise evasion while maintaining accuracy at close or medium ranges.
- The drop shot or dropping from a standing position to the prone position when shooting is a tactic to avoid being hit. To drop to the prone position, you use a certain fixed button. In a firefight, you can then drop down if necessary and continue firing while lying on the ground. Your opponent will then have a lot more trouble hitting you accurately.
- The second method is strafing, which is moving your body from side to side while you continue to fire. Your movement makes it difficult for your opponent to target you. At the same time, you must remember to balance the shots from your weapon, opposite to your movement.
The Close Combat
When the enemy is really closing in on you, melee combat is the best option. There is also a fixed button for this, which you can use to strike the enemy with your weapon. The melee attack deals significant damage and knocks the enemy out temporarily.
The melee attack is the quickest way to deal damage at close range and is also the quietest way. When you hit an enemy with a melee attack, this is not shown on the enemy’s mini-map. This is a good choice when stealth is needed.
Normally, melee attacks in Warzone are not one-hit knockouts. You may have to hit the enemy several times to bring them down. Damage depends on an enemy’s health and armour levels. An enemy with two or three standard armour plates will most likely take several hits before being knocked down.
If you get behind an enemy and hold down the melee button, you can perform a finishing move that robs the enemy of a lot of life energy and can eliminate them completely, even if they have a self-revive kit.
