After the remaster of the CoD: Modern Warfare 2 campaign, rumours were raised that the sequel could also get a remake. Activision, however, denies this.
Update from 9 August 2021: No, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not be getting a remaster after all. Activision officially quashes the rumours that arose in 2020 about a possible remake. Speaking to CharlieIntel, the video game publisher announced:
“A remaster of Modern Warfare 3 – campaign or multiplayer – does not exist. Any reports to the contrary are incorrect.”
So no good news for fans who had hoped for a remaster of the trilogy’s finale after the first two parts of the Modern Warfare series. You can read all the details about the previous rumours and speculation surrounding a Modern Warfare 3 Remastered in our original post.
This is what is happening soon with Call of Duty: If you are nevertheless interested in the future of CoD, we can still be of service to you. With Vanguard, the next part of the shooter series is to be developed by Sledgehammer Games.
The game has not been officially announced yet, but we already know a lot about the release, the setting, the campaign, the multiplayer and more. You can also read about what Vanguard means for Warzone here.
Original post April 19, 2020: So far it’s just an unconfirmed rumour: a remaster for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming soon. After the campaign of the predecessor Modern Warfare 2 was recently remade, the whole thing doesn’t sound completely far-fetched, at least.
We have already sent a request to Activision – as soon as we get an answer, we will of course update this article.
Caution! Since these are just unverified rumours and Activision has not yet commented on them, you should take the following info with appropriate caution.
The first rumours surfaced weeks ago: The well-known leaker TheGamingRevolution claimed via Twitter that work on the Modern Warfare 3 remaster had been going on for “a while”. The account from which the tweet originated has since been blocked for breaking the rules, a quote can be found at thegamepost.
How credible is the leaker? At least the Warzone mode for the current Modern Warfare was correctly predicted by TheGamingRevolution, among others. In general, the channel is well-informed when it comes to rumours and insider info about Call of Duty.
Supposedly the remaster is already finished
TheGamingRevolution also talks about the alleged remaster in a recent Youtube video. He claims that it is now finished, but he doesn’t know if only the solo campaign will be remastered or if there will be multiplayer as well
He cites the inscription of in-game artwork to the museum as a possible clue hidden in Modern Warfare 2’s remastered campaign. Their plaques state that they are part of the “Remastered Collection”. Two games are not usually called a Collection yet, so he suspects a third reboot.
By the way, according to the leaker, the coronavirus pandemic should not have had a negative impact on the schedule. When exactly MW3 Remastered is supposed to come, he could not say. After all, not even the MW2 reboot has been released for PC and Xbox One yet.
So it could still be a while before MW3 Remastered is officially confirmed, even if the alleged remake really is already finished in the drawer. However, the official announcement for MW2 was only made just before release. So a similarly surprising release would theoretically be conceivable again. Until Activision speaks out, of course, everything remains pure speculation.
Modern Warfare 2 will be cut again: Like the original, the remastered version will be released in Germany without the scandalous “No Russian” mission. In our video on the most controversial missions from CoD, we talk about eight particularly shocking scenes
