Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Is the Ghost perk useless?

There are indications that the Spirit Perk is bugged in its current form and therefore useless. We tell you what the rumours are about.

The launch of Modern Warfare 2 on 28 October went anything but smoothly. Game crashes, disabled weapon tuning and missing features caused unrest within the community. Even though developer Infinity Ward has now fixed many of the initial bugs, new problems are popping up every day, one of which concerns the Spirit perk.

Is the Spirit Perk useless?

The Ghost perk has been with the CoD community for pretty much exactly 12 years and was first introduced in 2010 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The perk is also back in Modern Warfare 2 and actually ensures that you remain invisible to other players on the radar.

The perk is one of the most important and most used in Call of Duty and was a must-have for every player, especially in Warzone.

In any case, the description of the Ghost perk seems to be clear, stating:

Unable to be located by drones, wearable radar and heartbeat sensors.

However, as several players have now found out, the perk seems to be bugged. Even if Geist is selected and unlocked in a match, drones can locate you on radar. It doesn”t matter whether you shoot, don”t shoot or whether you use a silencer or not.

So if you wanted to do everything right and have both a ghost and a silencer in your loadout, you will be punished twice, as both are useless, at least as far as visibility on the radar is concerned.

Already during the beta of Modern Warfare 2, many wondered what silencers would be good for in the future, after it was announced that players would not be visible on the minimap after shooting without a silencer as before. A change that many in the community did not understand and still reject to this day.

The streamer WhosImmortal has tested the whole thing on a private server with a friend and can confirm that the ghost perk is bugged regardless of whether a silencer is used or not.

Developers silent

With Modern Warfare 2”s new perk system, this bug hurts all the more. Not only do we have to wait a relatively long time to get our Ultimate Perk in the first place, it is now buggy and doesn”t work properly. The bug is no small matter, because in Modern Warfare 2”s multiplayer, reconnaissance drones are almost constantly in the air, which now show up on players” radar despite the Spirit perk.

So far, the developers of Modern Warfare 2 have not commented on the bug and it is not listed on their Trello board either. A possible explanation would be that the developers are currently still trying to reproduce the bug in order to hopefully fix it soon with a hotfix.

Until then, however, you should adjust your loadouts as soon as possible and replace the ghost perk with patched up or alerted. You should give the silencers a second chance, after all they often give you advantages in recoil control and damping.
