The cat and mouse game between developers and cheaters continues in Modern Warfare II.

The first cheaters were already spotted in the beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Actually, the anti-cheat programme Ricochet was supposed to prevent exactly this from the beginning.

Business as usual

It seems as if nothing has changed in Modern Warfare II compared to its predecessors, despite the improved Ricochet anti-cheat programme. Cheaters were already spotted during the beta phase, spoiling the fun of honest players with Aimbot, Wallhack & Co. Since implementing cheats on consoles is much more complicated and time-consuming, it is hardly surprising that most videos of hackers show PC players.

Even the beta phases of the predecessors Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard were just too overrun by cheaters and spoiled the mood of the motivated testers. The sad tradition now seems to continue in Modern Warfare II. In Warzone, too, there was repeated criticism of Ricochet and its effectiveness.

Again and again, the developers published unbelievable numbers of cheaters whose accounts were banned. However, they did not present a permanent solution to the problem for any of their past games.

Ricochet useless?!

Actually, the developers had assured that Ricochet should keep hackers out of the game from day one. Unfortunately, they probably didn’t mean the beta phase, but only the finished game. Via Twitter, however, they now announced that they will start to call cheaters to account as early as 24 September.

Why the much-vaunted anti-cheat programme was not already activated at the start of the beta and helped to track down cheaters remains unanswered. After all, the development team must have been aware of the disaster hackers already caused in BOCW and Vanguard during their beta phase.

Many in the community now fear that Ricochet was already tricked by cheaters during the beta phase of Modern Warfare II. Not good omens for the release of MWII on 28 October and Warzone 2.0 on 16 November. In the meantime, various videos have also appeared on YouTube that unabashedly show hackers in Modern Warfare II.

To date it is still unknown whether, after Ricochet has been activated, the cheaters’ foul play has come to an end or not. For us as players, we can of course only hope that the anti-cheat programme quickly put an end to the cheaters after it was finally switched on.

On Twitter, however, incomprehension spread during the second beta weekend. Many players rightly asked themselves why Ricochet was not already activated at the start of the beta. At the same time, hundreds of Steam users complained that they had been unjustly banned. Obviously, the problem with dishonest players will unfortunately continue to accompany us in Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.
