Do we really have to wait two years to get a second full-fledged BR map in Warzone 2.0?

It has taken over two years for the Warzone community to get a second full Battle Royale map in Caldera. Will the developers make the players wait that long for Warzone 2.0 as well?

Long Wait

As revealed by well-known CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope on Twitter, Activision is not planning to release another Battle Royale map until 2024. According to his sources, development studio Treyarch will be tasked with designing the new map and will release it along with a new “premium release”. What exactly this premium release will be, Ghost left open.

If the leak is confirmed, it would mean that it could be up to two years before Warzone 2.0 gets a new map.

The long wait between new maps would fit the past pattern. There was already a similar time gap between the two Warzone maps Verdansk and Caldera, which were released in 2020 and 2022 respectively. So Warzone players are already used to the wait.

As with Warzone, however, it can be assumed that the community’s wait for the new big BR map will be sweetened by smaller maps similar to Rebirth Island or Fortunes Keep. Many thought that the new DMZ mode in Warzone 2.0 already promised a new map. However, these hopes were dashed, DMZ will also take place on Al Mazrah, just like the normal BR mode.

Frankenstein’s Monster 2.0?

Whether the simultaneous release of the map and Treyarch’s “Premium Release” means that the latter will be integrated into Warzone 2.0 remains to be seen. However, the developers should be careful with a possible integration before they make the same mistake twice and alienate the community again with countless bugs and glitches.

One of the main reasons why there should be a new Warzone in the first place was the failed attempt to link the Modern Warfare (2019) sequels Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard to Warzone. The result was a Frankenstein-like monster of ones and zeros that fed on bugs and frustrated players. Hopefully, Warzone 2.0 will not become Frankenstein’s Monster 2.0 and Warzone’s history will repeat itself.
