Together with Warzone 2.0, we can expect a whole bunch of innovations that are supposed to spice up the Battle Royale shooter. We have told you what to expect.
The arrival of Warzone 2.0 is imminent and apart from the new DMZ mode and footballers with shooters, we can expect many other innovations that will breathe new life into the Battle Royale shooter. We have taken a closer look at the new features and explain what we can expect.
Gulag 2.0
The Gulag has evolved into a 2v2 in Warzone 2.0 in that we now have two options to make it back into the match. There will be a total of four players in each gulag, randomly thrown together, making prior collusion difficult. Once in the gulag, we have two options to make it back out.
We can take the classic route and eliminate all opponents, which brings you and your gulag partner back into the game, or alternatively team up with your opponents and take out the so-called “Jailer”, which allows all four players to jump back over Al Mazrah. However, be careful, the Jailer is a particularly strong AI opponent who will attack any player he gets in front of.
DMZ Mode
The brand new DMZ mode was supposed to compete with established tactical shooters like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown and deliver similar gameplay. However, as only recently became known, the mode has now surprisingly been given beta status, although DMZ was actually supposed to be fully released on 16 November together with Warzone 2.0.
Especially the many missing features and hardly noticeable differences to the normal BR mode were criticised by the community after a first demonstration. No economy system, a lack of atmosphere and a questionable inventory/loot system are the biggest problems for the players.
Interrogation mechanics
Did Infinity Ward take a cue from Rainbow Six: Siege? For those who have already played the tactical shooter from Ubisoft, the new interrogation mechanics of Warzone 2.0 should be nothing new. In both DMZ and BR modes, we will be able to interrogate disabled opponents.
With a blade at their neck, they will then briefly reveal the whereabouts of their team mates before we let them jump over them afterwards.
Multiple circles
Instead of fighting in one big circle as before, it can sometimes happen that the playing area splits into three smaller circles and teams are suddenly cut off from each other. In the course of a match, the circles move towards each other to merge into one again at the end.
Whether this mechanic is triggered in every match or happens randomly, we will find out at the latest when Warzone 2.0 is released on 16 November from 7 p.m.
Strongholds and Black Sites
Strongholds are areas on the map that are held by AI enemies and promise great rewards if you manage to capture them. The team that manages to defuse a bomb and take out the enemies first will not only be rewarded with a much-coveted loadout drop, but will also receive a key to one of the rare Black Sites to boot.
Only the first team to successfully defuse the bomb will be rewarded with a Black Site Key. However, teams that manage to kill a certain number of enemies afterwards, whether AI or not, still get a loadout drop. So be prepared for a tough fight.
Similar to Strongholds, Black Sites are areas of the map guarded by AI opponents, but they are much more challenging to conquer than ordinary fortresses. However, in order to enter a Black Site at all, you must first successfully complete an ordinary fortress as the first team. With the Black Site Key you receive, you can then enter the special fortresses and take on the challenge.
Black sites are guarded by particularly strong AI opponents who want to make life difficult for you. However, the increased difficulty level also has its advantages – as a reward for the ride through hell, you will receive the best weapons in the game and even particularly rare blueprints.
New vehicles and petrol stations
Unlike in Warzone, or Warzone Caldera as it will soon be called, we have to repair and refuel damaged vehicles, similar to the Modern Warfare 2 mode “Ground War”. So shot-up tyres and empty tanks will have to be taken into account in the future if we once again want to flee from the approaching gas at the last second.
Repairs can be carried out on the road, but they are a good opportunity for enemies to surprise us with a jack in hand and take us out. Even empty tanks are no reason to roll your car into the ditch. Thanks to the revolutionary invention of the petrol canister, you can give your thirsty rust bucket the fuel it needs until the next petrol station.
A total of 12 vehicles are available in Warzone 2.0. In addition to eight ground vehicles, there will also be two boats and two helicopters of different sizes. You can see a detailed view of all vehicles in a recent (blog post) from the developers.
3rd-Person-Playlist
In Modern Warfare 2”s multiplayer, players could already get a first impression of the new 3rd-person view, which will also be available in Warzone 2.0. Similar to PUBG, we can decide before starting a match whether we want to play it in the first-person or 3rd-person view.
However, the new mode will be available in weekly rotation and not continuously in the game.
