A CoD insider has leaked first information on Twitter about the planned alpha version of Modern Warfare 2 in August. We tell you what to expect.
As the Call of Duty community eagerly awaits the Modern Warfare 2 reveal on June 8, leaker RalphsValve releases first info on the alpha version of Infinity Ward’s new CoD title.
Alpha already in August
RalphsValve’s sources familiar with Modern Warfare 2’s schedule announce a first alpha version of the game for August. Internally, the shooter should already be tested in July, until it will then be shown to the general public in August and made partially accessible for testing purposes. The alpha will once again contain the Gunfight mode, in which four players compete in two teams. Traditionally, the Gunfight mode always shows the first gameplay of a new CoD title.
Even though the release of Modern Warfare 2 is already expected for autumn this year, the alpha would fall within the normal time frame of CoD games. Vanguard, the latest instalment in the shooter series, also achieved alpha status in 2021 in August and was released in the autumn. Whether a beta version can then be expected in September, as many suspect, remains to be seen, but would follow the usual development process of CoD games.

Reveal at Summer Game Fest
As US gaming journalist Jeff Grubb shared on Twitter, the official reveal of Modern Warfare 2 is said to be scheduled for 8 June at Summer Game Fest in Tribeca New York, with gameplay footage expected to be unveiled on 9 June. Industry insider Tom Henderson confirmed the date a little later, sharing the tweet.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s reveal is reportedly expected to happen in early June, per reporter Jeff Grubb (who has very accurately leaked info in the past). His list of upcoming reveals states it could happen the week of June 6th. https://t.co/86tlapVZRZ

Many are hoping that an open multiplayer beta of the game will also be announced on this day. The last few CoD titles have taken a similar approach to capture community feedback and make last-minute adjustments to the game. Modern Warfare of 2019, Infinity Ward’s last CoD game, also had a beta that allowed the developers to gain valuable insights for the final version of the game.
