Release: When does Season 1 start?
The first Season will start on 16 November 2022 at 7pm German time, the same day the new Battle Royale Warzone 2 opens its doors – and with it DMZ. The update will be uploaded on 14 November at 7 pm. From then on, the preload can be started on all platforms.
Also already known is the big mid-season update, Season 1 Reloaded: It will start on 14 December 2022 as scheduled. Typically, a CoD season lasts eight weeks.
What”s new in Season 1 and Season 1 Reloaded?
- (New Maps): The first Season brings back fan favourites: the beloved multiplayer maps Shipment and Shoot House return in a revamped form in Modern Warfare 2. Shoot House will be available right at launch, Shipment will follow with the midseason update.
- (Hardcore Mode): Actually, the mode, now called Tier 1, was already planned for launch. Now a Tier 1 playlist is to be added at the start of the season . Here you will have to cope with reduced health, limited HUD and friendly fire.
- (New Operators): Season 1 sees the addition of six new Operators:
- (Zeus) (unlockable in Battle Pass at launch): Founder of the anti-terrorist group Thunder, dedicated to hunting down Al Qatala.
- (Klaus) (coming with the midseason update): Member of the Danish elite special forces and a living legend among operators. After all, he carried a wounded comrade for 18 miles on the Urzikstan border.
- (Gaz) (coming with the midseason update): Price”s right-hand man. He became a legend in 2019 when his bravery during a raid on Piccadilly Circus caught the attention of the fearsome SAS Bravo team captain.
- (Neymar Jr.) (November 21), Paul Pogba (November 25), Leo Messi (November 29)
- New Weapons: A total of four new weapons find their way into multiplayer with Season 1:
- Victus XMR Sniper Rifle – Imperatorium Platform (unlockable directly at launch in Battle Pass).
- BAS-P SMG – Bruen Ops Platform (can be unlocked directly at launch in the Battle Pass)
- Chimera Assault Rifle – Bruen Ops Platform (comes with the midseason update)
- M13B Aussault Rifle – Bruen Ops Platform (coming with midseason update)
- (CDL Moshpit Playlist): Here you can compete like the pros in the Call of Duty League – only without ranks to move up and down. The
real
Ranked Play is not to be on the agenda until next year. - (Spec-Ops): The co-op mode will receive the new mission High Ground during Season 1 and the first raid episode is also to follow with the midseason update, in which you can put your tactical skills to the test with up to two friends.
- (Warzone 2): Call of Duty”s Battle Royale will also start with Season 1 on 16 November. You can find out more in our overview article on Warzone 2.
- (DMZ): Finally there is more information about the new mode and the leaks were spot on. DMZ is an extraction mode like in Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. Read more in our overview article on DMZ mode.
- (More news): Of course, the new Battle Pass and the Prestige System will also start with Season 1.
Battle Pass: What is known about the progress?
There will be a new Battle Pass just in time for the start of Season 1. But beware, this time it”s not related to the prequels. Instead, you”ll start your progress from scratch and unlock rewards through matches as usual.
- This remains the same: As before, there will always be a free and a paid Premium version of the Battle Pass. The first one you receive and level up automatically, the second one costs about ten euros and contains more rewards like XP tokens and skins. The exact rewards of Modern Warfare Season 1 are not yet known.
- This changes: This time the Battle Pass will not be linear as usual. Instead, it is structured like a map with several sectors. Each map has about 20 sectors and each sector has five unlockable items – such as operator skins, weapons or blueprints. You can unlock the sectors with tokens that you can earn in the game.
How many seasons are there in total?
This is not yet known. Allegedly, CoD Modern Warfare 2 will be supported longer than the previous main parts of the series, namely two years until 2024. Only then will the next CoD be released. So it is quite possible that there will be more seasons than before. Usually there is a season change every eight weeks and a major update every mid-season.
