The SP-R 208 outshines almost all other weapons right now, even without attachments. Many find it unfair at the moment – what’s going on?
“Call of Duty becomes a point & click adventure with this weapon”: This is how a Reddit user expresses what is currently frustrating many. It is about the SP-R 208, a weapon that already caused displeasure in Modern Warfare 2019 and also comes across as extremely powerful in Modern Warfare 2 . We explain what currently makes the Marksman Rifle so powerful and why many fans react annoyed.

The one-hit wonder of CoD
The SP-R 208 brings several characteristics to the table that make it overpowered in the current meta:
- A single hit is enough to kill an opponent – and this doesn’t mean a headshot, a shot to the torso is also enough.
- One-hit kills the rifle at short, medium and long range, because:
- The SP-R 208 is much more mobile than comparably powerful snipers, for instance thanks to a very short ADS time.
- You unlock the weapon very early and without problems, you just have to reach level 7.
- In addition, according to many players, the weapon has a particularly strong Aim Assist when using a controller
Somehow the SPR is the best shotgun, pistol, marksman and sniper rifle in the game all at once. Doesn’t even need attachments either. ModernWarfare2 MW2 pic.twitter.com/mTJip9CmDW

“I really follow people who run 50 metres in front of me across an open road without touching my analogue stick,” writes the well-known CoD insider ModernWarzone. His critical tweet about the weapon has collected almost 13,000 likes and many approving comments.
We at GlobalESportNews also regularly experience rounds in which someone storms across the map with the SP-R like a shotgun or pistol and cleans up with it effortlessly. Apart from packing the ghost perk (so that you are not so easily uncovered on the map) and constantly watching out for cover, there is not much you can do about it.
Is there a nerf coming for the SP-R 208?
It is quite possible that the weapon will be weakened or adapted in the future, for example by the developers slightly increasing the ADS time. There is currently no official information on this, but Call of Duty usually adjusts its weapon balancing with each season. The first season of Modern Warfare 2 starts on 16 November 2022 and continues the story from the campaign:
Before adjustments are made to individual weapons, however, the developers still have plenty of other open construction sites. Technical problems and frequent crashes continue to overshadow the launch, which is also reflected in disappointed Steam reviews.
