The ranked mode of CoD MW3 has been given a release frame. Here you can find out everything you need to know about it
Quickplay matches are all well and good, but we know what you’re really after: the fancy tournament skins that are only available in Ranked mode.
Turquoise and scarlet hoodies so you can show off in all the lobbies what tough guys and gals you are! And you can be proud of that, after all, only the tough get into the garden in Call of Duty tournament mode
This doesn’t change in MW3 either. Like its predecessor, Modern Warfare 3 will also have a ranked mode, albeit only after release.
Luckily, the developers have already communicated a rough timeframe – and this promises a reason to be happy: you won’t have to wait much longer.
When will Ranked Mode appear in MW3?
As part of the Call of Duty Next event, Sledgehammer Games already made a clear statement at the beginning of October about when the Ranked mode will be released: At the midseason event of the first season. So you can get started in tournament mode by Season 1 Reloaded of MW3 at the latest:

Greg Reisdorf, head of multiplayer at Sledgehammer Games, says literally, the ranked mode of MW3 will be updated, modernized compared to MW2. We will release it in time for Season 1.5, i.e. midseason.
Season 1 will be released in early December 2023, so the midseason event should take place sometime between mid to late January 2024 if Sledgehammer sticks to the regular season rhythm.
What exactly the mentioned modernization will look like is not yet clear, but most likely we are only talking about the regular multiplayer, not Warzone Ranked, which also appeared much later than the normal Ranked Play in MW2.
How does Ranked Play work in MW3?
As a result, we can only speculate how close the ranked experience will remain to that of MW2. This was based on the tournament rules of Call of Duty. Specifically, this means:
- All matches were only 4 vs. 4.
- The modes rotated through Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and Control without manual control over the preferred mode.
- Only victories improve your ranking and drive ranked progression.
Very likely there will be custom emblems, skins and weapon camouflages for those who climb the ranked ladder and work their way up from bronze
