With the update to Season 1 Reloaded, the developers are giving you a fun mode in which you can play “football”. We explain how this works.

For the release of the midseason update on 14 December, there is a lot of new content to try out not only for Modern Warfare 2, but also for DMZ and Warzone 2. In Battle Royale, for example, there are two new modes: In addition to Mini Royale (a shorter and smaller version), you can also try your hand at a football mode. Here”s a summary of how it works.

Where and when is Warzone Cup available?

As the name suggests, the game mode is part of Warzone 2 and therefore available for free to all players, whether they have purchased Modern Warfare 2 or not. However, you can only play the football mode for a short time: From 14 December at 19:00 until 23 December at 19:00 you will be competing with other players in the stadium.

How the Warzone Cup works

In a (blog entry) the developers explain all details about the new game mode. We summarise the most important things for you:

  • Rocket League in CoD: All operators sit on quads with a special boost function during matches. This allows you to push a large ball through the area, and preferably into the opponent”s goal. You can also ram opponents” vehicles, there are no fouls. Sounds like Rocket League!
  • Small teams: In Warzone Cup, two teams of 3 players each compete against each other. You can form a team with friends or use the squad-filling function, but having your own team is more practical, as communication is important here.
  • Own map: Warzone Cup is played on Al Easima Field a football stadium in Al Mazrah. However, the goals are a little bigger than in normal football matches:

Part of the football event

The Warzone Cup is of course part of the event for the football World Cup taking place at the same time. Previously, they already released three famous footballers as operators, which you can see here in the trailer:

What do you think of Warzone Cup? Do you like such fun modes in games or are you only interested in the more serious content? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments!
