Call of Duty is wiping your progress in DMZ mode for Season 2. The wipe is an unpleasant surprise for many players.
The message is hidden in a long blog post for Season 2 of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: Soon your progress in DMZ mode will be wiped. There was never any talk of such wipes before – and this is now pissing off many players. Many already know the ritual from Escape From Tarkov, but no one knew that DMZ is also borrowing this from the great Extraction role model.
We have all the important info for you: What exactly will be deleted? When will the progress be gone? And what happens to your won weapons and blueprints?
This is what you need to know about the DMZ wipe
What will you lose? All keys, Contraband weapons and your faction mission progress will be deleted. You will need to replenish your DMZ inventory. While insider CharlieIntel (soon to be reported) said that unlocked slots for insured weapons will also be deleted, the developers now clarify that the opposite is the case. So you may keep this practical advantage:
Confirming earlier reports, with Season 02 launch on Feb 15, insured weapon slots in DMZ will also be reset – along with Faction Tiers, Missions Progress, and stored contraband and keys.

When is the wipe coming? At Season 2, your progress will be reset, so on February 15, 2023.
Is there a wipe every season? Nothing is officially known yet. But of course it stands to reason that DMZ will bring new content with each season update and flatten your progress beforehand so that everyone starts from scratch again and newcomers also have a chance.
Are my weapons and blueprints safe? The weapons and blueprints you have unlocked via DMZ will remain with you.
Players’ reactions
Many DMZ players are expressing frustration and surprise at the announcement, which came so close to the season change. Even CoD experts like (ModernWarzone) express incomprehension on Twitter:
Players aren’t reacting well to the news that all of their progress in DMZ will be wiped when Season 2 starts.
It was never communicated that wipes were even a possibility.
Now players feel blindsided and like they wasted all their time and efforts for essentially nothing. pic.twitter.com/Fa1shD1wHQ

Wipes are okay if they are necessary like in Escape From Tarkov. This one seems like a wipe on principle.
In Escape From Tarkov, for example, there is an in-game economy that resets to zero every so often. Frequent players also collect a powerful arsenal at some point, which gives them great advantages over newcomers – but something like this is missing in DMZ. There are also no special unlockable skills that make experienced players superior.
The streamer (Marksman) earns a lot of approval with this comment on Twitter:
Yea I don’t know why this is a thing, they should be building onto it and not resetting all my tier 5 factions. Doesn’t quite make sense, but I won’t be re-doing all the missions again, so prolly done with DMZ.
– Marksman (@Marksman) January 26, 2023
Yeah, I don’t know why they do that. They should keep expanding it and not reset all my mission ranks. Doesn’t really make sense to me, but I’m not going to play all the missions again, so I’m probably through with DMZ.
With Season 2 comes not only the reset, but also new content for DMZ, the multiplayer and Warzone 2. And the changes for the Battle Royale sound like the opposite of the wipe, namely fulfilling almost all the important fan wishes!
What do you think of the upcoming reset? Do wipes like this frustrate you or are you happy for a fresh start to the new season?
