Ricochet is supposed to reliably detect cheaters in Call of Duty and punish them. But before the ban, they are also neutralised in the match.
The fight against cheaters in multiplayer games will probably never be over. Nevertheless, developers naturally strive to stay one step ahead of cheaters and neutralise them as quickly as possible. Warzone 2 now shows what new features the anti-cheat tool Ricochet, developed for Call of Duty, now has to make life difficult for dishonest players.
No kills for cheaters
(In a blog entry) the developers describe what has happened in Ricochet recently. Thus, convicted cheaters in Warzone 2 are rendered harmless with various measures, which were already used in the predecessor. They no longer see enemies, do no damage to them, or are simply disarmed:
In addition to the three measures presented, there are also others in use or under development.
While it certainly causes schadenfreude when a convicted cheater is rendered harmless, these measures also have a very practical purpose. Because if the dishonest players are not banned immediately, valuable data can be collected that helps in the further development of Ricochet. At the same time, this ensures that they don’t spoil the fun for others.
Of course, the developers are also working on better and earlier detection of cheaters. Two new tools have been introduced for this purpose:
- Record Investigation: Every match in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 can now be completely recorded and investigated afterwards. In ranked mode, all matches in the highest ranks will be automatically recorded and saved, the same applies to all matches of suspicious accounts.
- Hardware detection: It is also possible to intentionally gain gameplay advantages in Call of Duty with special hardware. However, this can now be detected, which initially leads to a warning and can also be punished with a ban if used further.
What do you think of the new measures against cheaters in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2? Do you think that most dishonest players will be caught by now? Or do you rather fear that Ricochet still has big gaps and that there are still too many cheaters? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments!
