Al Mazrah is awesome, but have you ever played on Verdansk? A little operator detail gives many a fan hope that it”s back in Warzone 2 too

With the release of Warzone 2, CoD players were once again let loose on a new Battle Royale map: Al Mazrah is considered by many fans to be a significant improvement over Caldera and already enjoys a pretty good reputation. But of course we like to think back to the good old days in Verdansk every now and then. Just ask Steffi.

That”s why it”s anything but surprising that at least parts of the community are hoping for a return of the very first Warzone map. And this has now been spurred on by a very specific discovery about which the fans are not quite in agreement: Is this a teaser or simply an Easter Egg? We collect for you what lies behind the speculation.

Currently, Verdansk cannot be played at all – not even in the first Warzone, which was recently given the subtitle Caldera.

Verdansk in Warzone 2 … at least as a detail

This is what players have discovered: In Warzone 2, players have become aware of the default skin of Operator Reyes. On his arm, a detail of the Warzone 1 map Verdansk can be seen – as the Reddit user (tiktokalnuke) noticed and shared with the community:

Which is now the subject of speculation: Opinions differ a little as to what the discovery might mean. For example, it is assumed that the Verdansk map by Reyes is simply a small Easter Egg with which the developers from Infinity Ward pay tribute to the very first Warzone map.

It is also not ruled out that the texture with the Verdansk snippet simply shows a placeholder that may never have been replaced. Others, of course, hope that there is more behind the little allusion.

There is also speculation that a potential return of Verdansk is being hinted at. Why else would Reyes make use of a Verdansk map? The first Warzone map was retired at the end of 2021 and subsequently replaced by Caldera. A radical change that not everyone was happy with.

What are the chances? That Warzone 2 will bring back Verdansk in some form cannot be ruled out due to the popularity of the map. However, there is no official info on this and fans” hopes are primarily wishful thinking.

If Verdansk does indeed make an appearance in Warzone 2 at some point, it probably won”t be too soon. After all, the new Battle Royale has just been released and the map Al Mazrah is likely to remain in the focus of the developers and community in the coming months. Fans may have to settle for Call of Duty: Mobile for now, in which Verdansk 2023 could play a role:

The most important info on CoD Warzone 2

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available for free on PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S since November 16, 2022. The release was overshadowed by technical problems (as was the case with Modern Warfare 2). Players quickly knew how to help themselves with their own solutions, while updates and patches remained manageable.

What do you think of the speculation surrounding a possible return of Verdansk: Would you be happy to return to the good old map from Warzone 1? Or should Activision and Infinity Ward leave it alone? Let us know in the comments!
