Season 3 for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War is in the starting blocks. While little is officially known about the next season in the latest CoD and Battle Royale, various leaks already provide a rough overview of where the journey could go.
Here we collect all the latest info for you, official and unofficial. And we’ll start with the most important dates.

When does Season 3 start?
Season 2 ends on April 21, 2021, according to the Battle Pass display. The developers have now confirmed this date via Twitter. It’s supposed to be at 9:00 p.m. German time:

Season 3 should start directly after that, i.e. on April 22, 2021. You can surely expect a new Battle Pass, new weapons and operators.
The ominous hint, “the end is near”, probably alludes to a mix of zombie apocalypse and nuclear explosion. You can read more about this in the next section under New Maps / Warzone and in the following paragraph.
Update for Warzone and Cold War – Download and Patch Notes
For the start of the newest season you should expect another big update for both shooters. Nothing is known about patch notes and download size yet, but Call of Duty has been notorious for gigantic patches lately.
You will probably find out the exact download size and the patch notes when the release date of Season 3 gets closer.
Alleged contents of Season 3
Weapons and equipment
Beware of leaks: There are no official announcements about Season 3 of Warzone and Cold War yet. The information on Season 3 content is based on datamining findings. Thus, it is uncertain whether the content will really appear in the form mentioned here.
The usually well-informed Youtuber TheGamingRevolution (TGR) has already discovered potential content information in the game’s files. Thus, there are rumors regarding four new weapons, two of which are said to be already known.
However, they could also make their way into Cold War’s multiplayer mode. Two others, on the other hand, come from Black Ops. There is also information about new equipment.
Usually three new weapons are released in a season, so you probably won’t get all of them in Season 3. According to TGR, they could also be leftovers that are still in the game files, but have been deleted in the meantime.
These weapons have been pulled from Call of Duty: Cold War and Warzone files by various dataminers:
- Scorpion SMG: The weapon from Black Ops 1 could make a new appearance.
- CZ75 Pistol: Another weapon that Black Ops veterans already know.
- Dragunov Sniper Rifle: Already exists in Warzone, but could be coming for Cold War.
- FAL Tactical Rifle: The FAL also exists in Warzone and a release in Cold War is possible.
- Barbed Wire: An item that allows you to stop approaching enemies.
- Ballistic Knife: A special knife known from previous CoDs that is especially deadly and versatile through mods and could come for Warzone.
- Recurve Bow: A modern lightning bow for silent kills.
New Maps
Cold War
Already since the game’s release, there are hints in the files about the map Echelon, which is supposed to be like a mix of High Rise and Dome from Modern Warfare. It is possible that this map will be released with Season 3.
Furthermore, according to TGR, there are hints of a desert map called Dunes, which is designed for Fireteam and Multi-Teams. However, it remains unclear whether the maps will eventually appear.
Warzone
And then there are the persistent rumors about a new map for Warzone, which could also appear with Season 3. According to earlier rumors, it was supposed to be set in the Russian Ural Mountains and be bigger than Verdansk. But according to new information, this map is probably off the table:
Instead, there will be a general overhaul of Verdansk after the planned nuclear explosion, which will set the map in the 80s. A first trailer leak has already revealed exciting details about this.
The fact that something big is about to happen on the map of Warzone is already shown by the zombies that descend on parts of the game world here and there. If you take the latest tweet from the developers (at the top of the article), you can guess that the undead will play an important role in the start of Season 3.
What’s next for Warzone?
According to consistent leaks from known sources like Tom Henderson and ModernWarzone, a nuclear explosion will wipe out the zombies from Verdansk. And the entire map as well, if you believe Henderson’s prediction.
However, this event will take place over a longer period of time. For now, the undead continue to spread: Players have spotted a ship off Rebirth Island that has the zombies on board – so the brain-eaters land directly in Verdansk and overrun the map.
This event fits like a glove with the developers’ tweet prophesying “the end”. In the story, it would be conceivable that first the zombies overrun Verdansk and then the game world is leveled to the ground with a nuclear bomb.
CoD: Warzone and Cold War – Battle Pass for Season 3
As with every new season, we’re expecting a new Battle Pass for the start of Season 3. This has been merged with the merging of CoD: Cold War and Warzone. So you level up in both games (and in CoD: Modern Warfare) one and the same Battle Pass.
As of now, nothing is known about the contents of the Season 3 Battle Pass in Call of Duty: Warzone and Cold War. As usual, you can expect new cosmetic items and usually also new weapons that you can earn.
Here, Activision relies on a free and paid path of the Battle Pass. If you don’t pay anything extra, you get a few small goodies and the new weapons for free. Those who spend around ten Euros on the virtual counter will get access to all items.
New content for zombies
According to TGR, the dedicated zombie mode from Cold War will be expanded over the course of the year. New content could also be coming for Outbreak. Tucked into the game files are hints at:
- New enemy types, for example boss zombies.
- Cinema of the Dead, a new map in Berlin
- New main quests
- More Easter Eggs
According to CharlieIntel, developers at Treyarch are said to have confirmed that Outbreak could be integrated into upcoming CoDs if the mode is successful enough.
