A team won a match on Rebirth Island within the first second. The reason for this was a mistake made by the game.
Superlatives are a funny thing – as soon as you call something the “biggest”, “fastest” or “most beautiful”, someone comes along and shows something even bigger, faster and more beautiful. But one Warzone team has set a record that really shouldn’t be broken.
The four-player squad around Youtuber Its Novik won a match within the first second – before the players even landed on the map. Behind it all is a chaotic lobby and a possible glitch.
The fastest possible Warzone victory?
First of all, please have a look at this video in which Novik shows how the lightning victory came about (you can see the whole match and the win from minute 1:46). Below we summarise the most important things again:
How could this happen? The match took place on the smaller map Rebirth Island, where a maximum of 40 players fit into one lobby. In this case, many players disappeared straight back into the preliminary round even before the actual Battle Royale got underway. At the end, a solo player was pitted against the four-player team – the player obviously didn’t feel like it and left the lobby.
Actually, no match should have started like that, but for some reason Warzone sent the team to the start anyway. Completely alone. And because there were of course no opponents left, the game counted this as a victory before the players could even jump out of the helicopter. So Novak not only achieved the fastest possible Warzone victory, but didn’t have to fire a single shot to do it.
Does that count? Of course, that’s not actually how it’s supposed to be, and for many Warzone fans, a win by glitch doesn’t count. However, there are always heated discussions even around the recognised world records, for example when professionals end up in a round with far inferior players.
In the comments under Novik’s video, some players report that this has already happened to them several times. Presumably, developer Raven will eventually release a fix that prevents matches from starting without opponents if reports of this accumulate.
Soon it will be bye-bye Rebirth Island and bye-bye Verdansk! The new warzone map with a Pacific WW2 setting is to be released this year and will replace the previous map. Season 6 will probably be the last one before the big changes made by CoD Vanguard.
