Call of Duty Warzone continues to struggle with cheaters. Now the developer has banned several thousand accounts – and has received some criticism for it.

There seems to be no end to the cheater problem in Call of Duty Warzone. The developers of the game have now reacted to it again.

On Twitter, they now stated that they have banned a whole 15,000 accounts and that even more accounts will follow. However, there is also criticism.

Are the accusations true?

The critics are mainly talking about the fact that many legitimate accounts have been banned. Numerous players are coming forward to say that they have never cheated or otherwise violated the terms of use.

The problem with such statements is always the burden of proof. As an outsider, it is impossible to assess whether someone has really been banned illegally or whether it is just a cheater trying to have his account unlocked again with the help of public pressure.

It is quite possible that the claims of the players are true. After all, it would be far from the first wrongly issued ban in a video game. In the same way, there are plenty of cheaters who lie and claim innocence or otherwise try to talk their way out of a ban.

Regardless of whether the bans are justified or not, our author Stephanie Schlottag thinks that Warzone is in a crisis and that the developer needs to do something about it:

Do bans in a Free2Play game do any good?

Since you can create another account in Free2Play games like Call of Duty: Warzone without any problems, some players feel that the efforts against cheaters are useless. After all, they can simply create another account and don’t have to spend any money on it, so the reasoning goes.

However, the situation is not quite that simple. Often, not only the account itself is banned, but also the hardware ID associated with it. With this method, the game operator can track cheaters across accounts and also prevent them from simply creating a new account if they use the same hardware.

Warzone itself also requires you to provide a phone number when playing it for free. This also makes it more difficult for cheaters to simply return after being banned.
