Will Warzone live on despite a sequel? According to insider Tom Henderson, the original will continue to get content – but under a new name.

Actually, Call of Duty: Warzone along with Call of Duty: Vanguard is currently on a farewell tour. With Final Stand, the supposedly last season started a few weeks ago, in which both games will still receive new content. After all, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 including Warzone 2 will soon be released, replacing its two predecessors.

At least that was the theory. However, a rumour is currently doing the rounds on the internet that at least Call of Duty: Warzone will live on afterwards. We take a look at what the rumour is true and how we assess its veracity.

By the way, Activision is currently delivering priority teaser trailers for Modern Warfare 2, which provide brief glimpses of the shooter’s story campaign:

New name and content for Warzone

Currently, Warzone is running Season 5 with the name Last Stand – the last stand. But the name is apparently not emblematic of Warzone’s fate, according to the usually reliable insider Tom Henderson.

According to a Twitter post by Henderson, the original Warzone will still be provided with new content in the future. This will apparently be accompanied by a name change: from 28 November, Henderson says the Battle Royale Warzone will be called Caldera.

However, it is unclear where Henderson gets his information from and, above all, what future support is to look like. It is not clear from the article whether major new content is actually planned or only minor changes.

There is currently no official information about the future of Warzone. Nevertheless, it is not at all unlikely that the Battle Royale will be maintained a little further, even if presumably not to the same extent as before. One such example even already exists in CoD history.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from 2019, despite the release of Black Ops: Cold War and Vanguard, still received new content in subsequent years, albeit very irregularly. Such an approach would also be conceivable for Warzone, so at the very least smaller content such as new weapons or a recurring seasonal event could be pushed down the line.

Call of Duty: Here’s what’s coming up soon

If this is indeed the case, it could soon be officially clarified. A livestream on the future of Call of Duty will take place on 15 September. The focus of CODNext will of course be on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, about which there is guaranteed to be plenty of new information.

Eventually, the developers will also talk about the future of Warzone itself and present a plan for the Battle Royale. We will of course keep you up to date on this!

Would you like to continue playing Warzone after the release of Warzone 2 or would you rather Activision and the developer studios concentrate on the sequel? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments!
