Action movie star ‘The Rock’ Johnson has reportedly announced a video game adaptation in which he himself will star in an interview. Will it be CoD?

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is the highest earning actor in the world according to the latest report on (statista). Just recently, the ex-WWE star caused a bit of a gaming uproar when he appeared in Fortnite’s video sequence. After a virtual appearance in the gaming universe, a starring role in a live-action adaptation of an FPS title is now to follow.

‘The Rock’ to star in Call of Duty film adaptation

In an interview with Men’s Journal, Dwayne Johnson talked about his preparations for the role of ‘Black Adam’, a superhero from the announced film adaptation of DC’s comic book of the same name. The final question to The Rock was about whether the action star had plans to bring video game characters to the big screen. To which the 49-year-old replied:

I can’t tell you what game it is yet, but there’s going to be a big announcement this year. We’re going to bring the biggest, grittiest game to the big screen. A game that I’ve played myself for years

The statement is quite open-ended. Theoretically it could be any big game of the last few years. So why CoD?

Why it could be Call of Duty

Activision planned to create a Call of Duty movie universe back in 2015. In 2020, however, the publisher changed its mind again. In the meantime, however, Activision has been bought out by Microsoft, which could completely rethink the CoD franchise. Early last year, The Rock and Microsoft made common cause by unveiling the ZOA energy drink in the Xbox mini-fridge. So the next collaboration could be with a CoD adaptation, right?

Faith McKay, editor-manager of Giant Freaking Robot, reported that, according to her own sources, Dwayne Johnson is said to be talking to the studios about a Call of Duty film adaptation. As far as content is concerned, there seems to be no further information as yet.
