NFL star and quarterback Kyler Murray has a little problem: He likes to play Call of Duty too much. Since his gameplay affects his qualities as a quarterback, his team has now targeted him.

Kyler Murray is the quarterback of the NFL team Arizona Cardinals. Recently, the star player extended his contract until 2028, which, however, contained an unusual clause: He can no longer play Call of Duty during practice.

Who is Kyler Murray?

  • Kyler Murray is the star quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.
  • At just 25 years old, he has already made the Pro Bowl twice and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019.
  • In addition to his passion for football, his love for Call of Duty has always stood out throughout his career.
On his (Twitch account) he even streams games like NFL Madden or Call of Duty himself from time to time.

This is what the CoD ban should look like

Kyler Murray”s mega-contract with the Cardinals was recently extended for a whopping $230.5 million. However, hidden in the contract is a relatively curious clause. The player, who has been playing for the team since 2019, is officially no longer allowed to play Call of Duty.

This regulation refers at least to the team”s training and analysis times. He is supposed to watch and analyze at least four hours of game footage each week as “homework!”

In the past, Murray”s passion for Call of Duty has stood out more than once. In 2020, for example, he and his team won an extremely close and exciting game against the Buffallo Bills. But instead of celebrating the victory with his teammates afterwards, he went home and played Call of Duty for his Twitch viewers.

What”s the deal with the gaming ban?

In fact, after the extra clause in his contract was leaked to the public, fans went to great lengths to analyse the issue and get to the bottom of it.

In the process, some football fans have gone to great lengths. This Reddit user, for example, analysed various statistics of Kyler Murray”s performance. What stood out was that the quarterback”s performance noticeably deteriorated on weekends when there were special Double XP events in Call of Duty.

After the Arizona Cardinals drew heaps of criticism for the extra provision, however, the team decided to remove the clause from the contract again. The fans” distrust will likely linger on Murray”s mind after the leak of the controversial provision.

Video games are popular with professional athletes

Kyler Murray is not the only professional athlete who likes to sit down at a PC or console in his spare time. In 2019, there was a similar incident where the Boston Red Sox banned Fortnite from their ranks due to poor performance. The MLB team had apparently spent a few too many hours playing Epic Games” Battle Royale at the time.
