Microsoft’s next Xbox console will not charge an additional fee for multiplayer

Although it will be some time before the next Xbox is released, the rumor mill has been churning for some time now.

The often well-informed journalist Jez Corden from Windows Central has commented on the upcoming Xbox in a podcast:

In detail:

  • The next Xbox will be a stationary console.
  • There will be a handheld that can also be used for mobile gaming.
  • Microsoft is also said to be thinking about making multiplayer free.

But be careful: Even if Corden is usually well informed, these are all rumors.

Here is the English podcast in full length:

According to rumors, Microsoft seems to be aiming for a release in 2026. This would probably place the Xbox between the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be released in 2025, and Sony’s PlayStation 6

Multiplayer to be free of charge

Corden also has good news for fans of multiplayer games. Microsoft is to waive the obligatory fee

This should only apply to the new Xboxand be seen as an incentive to switch to it.

A Game Pass Core membership is available for 6.99 euros per month. Whether Microsoft will then also adjust the price of Game Pass is unclear.

Xbox Handheld

The rumor that Microsoft was working on a handheld Xbox emerged at the beginning of the year.

The rumor was indirectly confirmed by the Xbox boss around June. However, no details or plans were revealed.

According to Corden, Microsoft will continue to rely on a stationary console for the next Xbox. However, players will be able to expand this with a handheld Xbox, according to reports.
