Call of Duty is doing everything it can to bring back the “good old days” – and the comeback of the legendary map Verdansk is just the beginning!

Season 3 of CoD Warzone is no ordinary season. Rather, it is an elaborate feat to bring back the magic of 2020, when the Battle Royale experienced its big boom.

The return of the infamous map Verdansk is just one of several building blocks: never before has a CoD season been so filled with nostalgia

The developers seem to want to reproduce the gameplay of yesteryear as accurately as possible, even scaling back the omnimovement introduced and heavily promoted in Black Ops 6! We’ll summarize the key points here.

  • Start date: From Thursday, April 3, 2025, Verdansk and Call of Duty Warzone Season 3 will be playable. Additional updates are planned throughout the season and beyond.
  • Event: Return to Verdansk will take place from April 3 to April 15, 2025 and includes an Event Pass with 20 rewards (this path is completely free).

    “New” map: Verdansk

The map that started it all and is the source of countless memories for fans of the Warzone heyday is back.

The map is a faithful remake of the 2020 version with improved graphics. According to the manufacturer, the gameplay should be largely identical to the original. Also on board: The Old Gulag

    Guns: Old Classics

Some of the weapons from the old Modern Warfare 2019 that have not been in CoD since will return in Season 3.

These include the CR-56 AMAX, the HDR sniper rifle and the Kilo 141. The latter can be unlocked during the free event Return to Verdansk.

    Movement: Slower

In Season 3, the developers are adjusting the lightning-fast Omnimovement in Battle Royale. Overall, some speed has been taken out, especially when sprinting to the side and backwards, as well as when sliding.

The developers say the speed should be more “in line with the early days of Warzone.”

    Vehicles: Helicopter back

To get that real Verdansk feeling, the developers are bringing back all the vehicles that were available in the first version of Warzone.

This includes the truck with a large loading area and the infamous Little Bird helicopter. All vehicles can be found again in their original 2020 positions.

    Further changes in Season 3:

    • 150 players compete again, as in the original
    • The original Plunder mode returns
    • Purchase stations work as they used to
    • Death zone returns to the first Warzone version
    • You can shoot again in free fall
    • The victory screen from the past returns
    • Some Mil-Sim operators from MW2019 are back

It’s immediately apparent: rarely in its history has Call of Duty made such a consistent U-turn as with Season 3. Every which way, they’re apparently trying to resurrect the gameplay from the golden Warzone era.

The reason for this is obvious: In recent months, criticism from the community has increased that the Battle Royale has gradually lost its soul and identity.

The reason given is the many changes and new features that are simply poured into Warzone with each new CoD release, thus greatly changing the flow of the game – and in the eyes of many, diluting it as well.
