Update for CoD Warzone makes a hated item much rarer

The Riot Shield disappears from loot boxes: CoD Warzone removes the defensive weapon that had few friends among Battle Royale players

The Riot Shield in Call of Duty: Warzone certainly has its friends, but many players are rather annoyed by the defensive item. Skilled players can effectively shield themselves from fire, are difficult to defeat, cost time and interrupt the flow of the game. The item was so common in the warzone that counter grenades, i.e. incendiary grenades and Molotov cocktails, became the standard meta.

This should now be an end for the time being: Warzone developer Raven Software is temporarily removing the Riot Shield completely from loot boxes with the latest update for CoD: Warzone. The only way to get the Riot Shield is now via personal loadout drops. This should noticeably reduce the frequency of the item in Battle Royale.

However, the change is explicitly temporary. Raven has not yet revealed when the Riot Shield will return (possibly with changes). The reasons why the developers have decided to remove the Riot Shield, which has always been criticised, from the regular loot also remain unclear. At least annoyed players who deny the shield the right to exist in the Warzone should breathe a sigh of relief.

What else is in the Warzone update?

Apart from one exception, the patch notes only contain minor repairs. The update from 24 June 2021 also heralded the end of the “Ground Fall” event.
