New details about Warzone 2 two have been leaked in a YouTube video. It hints at fundamental changes in the Battle Royale shooter.
Hardly a week goes by without new leaks about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Besides a short clip which is supposed to show ingame scenes of MW 2, there is also a YouTuber who collects many gameplay changes in his video. What has just been freshly leaked and what this could mean for the Battle Royale sequel, we clarify in this article.
What does the leaked gameplay show us?
Where does the information come from?
- TheMW2Ghost has shared a short clip that purports to show real gameplay footage from Modern Warfare 2.
- NerosCinema has uploaded a six-minute video about Warzone 2, in which he addresses various leaks he claims to have received from an insider.
- Tom Henderson, a trusted industry insider wants to confirm much of the alleged information about Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.
I don’t want to beat around the bush, but a lot of this is true.
I suppose there are some discrepancies because the source can’t remember exact details… But yes, there seems to be a huge load of leaks coming up.
Leaked clip reveals little information: A short in-game clip was also leaked on Twitter, which Henderson describes as real
. In the short video, however, all that can be seen is a player reloading his weapon and then examining it. The weapon and equipment apparently confirm the modern setting.
The surroundings, however, provide little information, as one can only see some lawn, a few trees and the edge of a steppe in the surroundings. The video has since already been removed for copyright infringement, which again speaks for the authenticity of the clip. According to Henderson, the footage is from around December 2021 and does not represent the current state of development.
Loadouts may be harder to get: Loadouts, which are a unique selling point of Warzone, will still be available, but players will have to complete so-called strongholds in Warzone 2. Strongholds could be specific locations on the map where players encounter AI enemies and have to disarm a bomb, for example.
Armor plates need a bag: In Warzone 2 you should not be able to use the plates just like that. Before you can do that, you will have to find a suitable pocket on the map.
Limited inventory: In the future, players are supposed to carry a backpack with them that will only have limited space for items, sounds like Tarkov. Additional weapons can still be carried, but will consume a lot of space.
Other small changes rumoured to be coming:
- The so-called Pro-Perks (Perks that you can level up) are said to be coming back in Warzone 2 and therefore Modern Warfare 2.
- A shooting range where you can try out loadouts and weapons. This is a wish fans have been expressing for a long time.
- Weapons should only get five instead of eight places for attachments.
Slide-Canceling
will no longer exist. This is a technique where you can switch directly from sliding to tactical sprinting.
Old locations from Modern Warfare 2 will probably return in Warzone 2: As we already know from the current CoD Warzone, some of the old classics will also return in Warzone 2 in the new spin-off. Among others: Afgan, Terminal, Quarry and Highrise.
Warzone 2 and the new DMZ mode might get the same map: Leakers claim to have learned from various sources that the maps from both modes will be the same. The screenshots obtained from the last few months are said to confirm this. Verdansk could find its way back into the game at a later date.
One of the leakers is also said to have already seen part of the map of Warzone 2 and traced it by hand. Apart from the various icons, streets and a river, not much is visible yet. The weapon symbol could be one of the strongholds mentioned:
” Disclaimer: This is a remake based on the actual map image. Not the actual image itself. (Obviously)”

May 19 update
There is news about Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. As various leaks have confirmed, not only the map Highrise will be a part of the two new CoD games, but also three other maps we already know from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). So far we know that the maps Highrise, Terminal, Quarry and Afghan will make their comeback in Modern Warfare 2.
✅ Highrise
✅ Terminal
✅ Quarry
✅ Afghan…will return in Modern Warfare II and the new Warzone 2 map, per @_Tom_Henderson_ pic.twitter.com/ZGZZsw3Xv
– Modern Warfare II News (@CODMW2News) May 19, 2022
In Warzone 2, the maps are to be integrated into the large Battle Royale map as POI and under a different name in some cases.
- Highrise will appear as “Modern City” on the Warzone 2 map and is supposed to be reminiscent of Downtown from Verdansk.
- Quarry will keep its name
- Terminal, will appear as POI “Airport” in Warzone 2 and is home to one of three large strongholds where we can fight for our loadout
- Afghan will be renamed “Caves” and is said to be in the middle of the Battle Royale map.
Strongholds and DMZ
The Strongholds already hinted at by NerosCinema will be spread across the entire map and will be available in different difficulty levels. There will be three large Strongholds and 25 – 30 smaller ones. The more difficult and larger a Stronghold is, the greater the reward for successful completion will be. Each stronghold can only be completed once. So if you want your loadout, you’d better hurry up and be the first to take out the AI enemies guarding the stronghold.
According to information from Henderson, the new DMZ mode in Modern Warfare 2 will play on the same map as Warzone 2. Screenshots of the DMZ map sent to him are apparently identical to the new Warzone 2 map. DMZ mode is an extraction-based game mode similar to the hit game Escape from Tarkov. Players battle other players and AI opponents as they attempt to complete objectives and loot.
Original news from 18 May
Loadouts
According to the source from NerosCinema, Warzone 2 is more oriented towards Call of Duty: Blackout than Warzone 1. Although loadouts are to become a fixed component of Warzone 2, they will not be purchased at buy stations as before, but must be fought for. In so-called “strongholds”, players have to complete various tasks in order to earn their loadout. The tasks are supposed to range from defusing a bomb to dealing with waves of AI attacks. Whether these strongholds are the only means to get loadout drops or there will still be random drops on the map was not mentioned.
Another change concerns weapons and perks. Our shooting irons can now only be equipped with a maximum of five attachments in Warzone 2. This could put an end to the gigantic jumble of different weapon setups. The Pro-Perks make a comeback in Warzone 2. They were introduced in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and could be unlocked through certain prerequisites. Pro-Perks are an improved version of their original.
Inventory system and armour modification
The inventory of Warzone has basically remained unchanged since release and consists of a maximum of two weapons, one primary and one tactical item. In Warzone 2, this is now to be revised. According to NerosCinema, bags or backpacks will be introduced in which we can carry grenades, weapons and even launch rewards. The space of the bags will be limited, which will require good inventory management. Comparable mechanics have already existed in BR shooter PUBG since release.
Armour plates are to continue to be available in Warzone 2, but in the future we will need a special bag to carry our plates in. So it could well be that armour plates become a rare commodity in Warzone 2 if there aren’t enough armour bags spread across the map.
Map
On the new BR map of Warzone 2, an area will be Highrise, a map from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). In addition, we can look forward to a comeback of Verdansk in Warzone 2. However, it is unclear whether the map will already be released. Those who would like to test their weapon setups will be able to do so on a shooting range in the future, where statistical values such as damage and range will also be recorded. Complicated test videos by YouTubers will soon be a thing of the past.
According to industry insider Tom Henderson, the layout of the new Warzone 2 map reminds him more of Call of Duty: Blackout than Warzone 1.
To be honest, the new Warzone 2 map looks more like Blackout than it does Warzone in terms of its layout.
It’s going to be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
– Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) May 18, 2022
Since this is a leak, all information is of course not final and can change at any time. However, Henderson has already commented on the leak and classified the info as mostly true. CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope has a different guess and believes NerosCinema is confusing Warzone 2 with Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode: “Sounds to me like a guy who confused DMZ and WZ2 lol.”
I’m not going to beat around the bush, but a lot of this is true.
I’m assuming there are some discrepancies because the source can’t remember exact details… But yeah, leak overload inbound, it seems.https://t.co/MaVyUEWBch
