Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also brings with it the new Warzone 2.0. But when will the next spin-off of the popular Battle Royale be released?
The release of Modern Warfare II and the Battle Royale spin-off Warzone 2.0 are eagerly awaited. While the release date of MW2 is already known, the question now arises as to when the new Warzone offshoot will be released.
Modern Warfare II as the reason
In a (official blog) the developers reveal more background for Modern Warfare 2. In the post, they tease the story as well as the gameplay, and they also announce their schedule.
The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is scheduled to be released on 28 October 2022, with Warzone 2.0 to be released a little later this year. The two months of November and December would be available for this.
It is likely that Activision will avoid the immediate pre-Christmas period, as no bugs and errors can be fixed over the holidays. Therefore, it is more likely that Warzone 2.0 will be released either in late November or early December.
The current Warzone: Pacific map Caldera was also released in early December, which makes this timeframe plausible.
No release in March
Contrary to much speculation, Warzone 2.0 will be coming this year. Many players and fans have assumed that the successor to Warzone will not be released until 2023. The reason for this is the similar release window of the current Warzone, which was released on 10 March 2020.
Other reasons would have argued for this as well. For example, Warzone 2.0 would not steal the limelight from the new title Modern Warfare II and would have more time for development. However, the blog post has refuted these assumptions, which is why we can look forward to Warzone 2.0 this year.
