World of Warcraft shares a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of ‚Stay a While’–one of the best sidequests in Dragonflight.
World of Warcraft just shared a development blog delving into the creation of one of Dragonflight’s most memorable quests. This World of Warcraft blog post gives players a behind-the-scenes look at how this iconic quest came to life.
Dragonflight has tons of sidequests ranging from hilarious pop culture references to emotional moments. “Stay a While”–a sidequest involving the stoic dragon Veritistrasz–is among the latter, and stood out to players who encountered him in the Waking Shores.
The recent development blog by World of Warcraft went into the details of the genesis of this brilliant quest. Though the final iteration has players sit with the old dragon and enjoy the view of the Waking Shores while reminiscing on sad memories of change and loss, earlier versions looked quite different. Players might have instead wandered the Ruby Lifeshrine, gone on fetch quests in nearby ruins, or had less involvement in the conversation. Veritistrasz himself evolved from a bitter and sarcastic figure into the bittersweet character players can see now.

“Stay a While” stuck out to players as an exceptional quest even before Blizzard highlighted it in this blog post. When Dragonflight first launched, players who discovered the old dragon were instantly touched by his story. Even Blizzard legend Chris Metzen posted a tribute on his private Twitter when he first encountered the incredible quest. World of Warcraft fans lauded the quest for its incredible atmosphere, subtle worldbuilding, and break from normal fetch quests.
Players enjoyed World of Warcraft taking them behind the development curtain in this recent blog. Seeing the development process that goes into impactful moments like this quest is fascinating for many fans to see. Many hope World of Warcraft will make similar insightful articles about other beloved quests, such as the one involving the Dragonmaw clan orc who comes to the Waking Shores in Dragonflight.
This sidequest is indicative of the higher level of quality players have experienced in Dragonflight. After Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands, both of which had mixed reviews from fans, Dragonflight has been a breath of fresh air for many. While it hasn’t been perfect, the expansion has had a good story, an excellent endgame, and a refreshing change of pace from the grinds found in its predecessor. If World of Warcraft keeps up the momentum it has built with amazing moments like “Stay a While,” Dragonflight could end up being one of the best expansions in World of Warcraft’s history.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
