Last week the campers sang it from their sniper nests: Counter-Strike 2 is apparently coming out this week. A recent update on the streaming platform Twitch has now further fueled speculation about the imminent launch of Counter-Strike 2.

Twitch is already celebrating the CS2 release

What happened? The official release of the game has not yet been confirmed by Valve. But an enigmatic tweet from the official CS Twitter account last week posed the question: what are you doing next Wednesday? – leading many fans to suspect that Wednesday, September 27, 2023, could be the big day.

On Twitch, the release of CS2 is already being celebrated. As the streaming platform announced last night, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive category has been changed early:

To celebrate the next decade of Counter-Strike, we’ve updated the name of the category.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has now become simply Counter-Strike. According to Twitch, streamers should be able to stream CS:GO as well as the currently ongoing closed beta test of CS2 in this category.

As a rule, Twitch does not change the category name on its own, but at the suggestion of the developers. Possibly Valve has its fingers in the game here, which should seal the release of CS2 on Wednesday to a large extent.

Only the question remains: Will Counter-Strike 2 really be called that? Or will both the Global Offensive and the 2 be surprisingly dropped from the name? It could be possible, after all CS2 is ultimately just a massive update for CS:GO.

Twitch is also known for combining several games under one category: For example, the streaming platform combines World of Warcraft and WoW Classic in one category, and the same applies to Quake. The only thing that seems almost certain is that CS2 will be released on Wednesday.
