The Counter-Strike 2 update on July 17 has finally brought Overpass into the game, but differently than you think.

The Counter-Strike 2 beta is still in full swing and the developers regularly provide new updates. One of them has now added the popular map Overpass to the game. We have taken a look at the map and tell you why old tactics are obsolete on the freshly revised map.

More than a facelift

With the July 17 update, the developers have finally introduced Overpass to the Counter-Strike 2 beta after a long wait. As with other maps such as Nuke, Dust2 or Mirage, a lot has changed on Overpass, which was first introduced in 2013.

In contrast to Dust2 and Nuke, Overpass has not only received a facelift in which the lighting was adjusted, but a complete overhaul. Since the map, which is set in Berlin, has always been expansive and has large differences in altitude, the removal of the skybox was an important step to enable new tactics through smoke and fire grenades.

In addition to the new options for throwing grenades, the community was particularly impressed by the impressive graphic update of the map. In addition to improved textures and much brighter lighting, the water on the redesigned map is particularly impressive.

New tactical depth

Thanks to the removal of the skybox, many tactics on Overpass should have a whole new depth in the future. Fake bombsite pushes can now be launched from almost anywhere on the map, catching CTs stone cold.

There have also been some changes to the map that seem minor at first glance, but which have opened up important lines of sight. For example, on B-Short we can now jump on the sandbags without a teammate to see the stairs in front of monsters and spot a potential push on B early on.

This triple boost, which now provides a near-complete view of the bomb site, is also likely to catch one or two players with their trousers down, strongly reminiscent of the legendary Olofmeister boost that caught LDCL completely off guard during Dreamhack Winter 2014.

In the weeks following the release of Overpass, more crazy boosts and new smoke grenades unthinkable in CS:GO are likely to follow, shaking up the gameplay on the ten-year-old map, we’re looking forward to it.
