Never before has an all-Danish roster been able to win a major title on Danish soil. As of yesterday, that curse has been broken!

The Royal Arena in Copenhagen. Despite its location in Denmark’s capital, it has a reputation for being a hindrance to successful performance by Danish teams. Half-serious tales of a curse for home teams surround the 25,000-seat venue.

But since last night at the latest, these stories are just what they are – simple stories. Because with Heroic, for the first time a roster consisting entirely of Danish players has won an S-tier event on home soil.

BLAST Premier: Heroic vs. FaZe

In the BLAST Premier Fall Final, FaZe Clan and Heroic met in two teams whose starting positions could not have been more different.

While the home team travelled to Denmark with a lot of self-confidence after a strong second place at the Major in Brazil a fortnight ago, the actual top team of the FaZe Clan was at a crossroads before Copenhagen.

On the one hand, they had one of the most dominant years in CSGO and still have the chance to win the Intel Grand Slam with another victory at a major ESL event and finally go down in history as one of the best teams of all time.

On the other hand, they were eliminated without a win in the preliminary round of the Rio Major.

However, the voices doubting Finn “karrigan” Andersen and Co were immediately silenced with their entry into the final of the BLAST Premier.

Curse broken: Heroic beats FaZe in overtime

The final itself was more than worthy of a final. While the first map Overpass went to Heroic with a relatively controlled 16:11, it was a constant and breathtaking back and forth on Inferno until the score of 11:11. After that, FaZe only allowed their opponent to win a single round and in the end decided it in their favour with 16:12. Consequently, the final went to a decisive third map.

In a completely different way than on Inferno, the spectators on Mirage experienced two very different halves. While the first half went clearly to Heroic with 11:4, much to the delight of the Danish audience, the horror was great when FaZe Clan repeated this feat in the second half. The consequence was clear: Overtime!

Borne by the outstanding atmosphere of the Royal Arena, Heroic managed to win this clearly with 4:1 and finally also Mirage with 19:16 after overpass.

The decisive last kill was scored by Heroics in-game leader Casper “CadiaN” Möller with his AWP. After that, all the dams broke for the 27-year-old, who has been one of the greats of the CSGO scene for years but has never been able to win a major offline title.

Pure tears of joy and ecstasy.

And a supposed curse that has finally been history since yesterday at the latest.
