It’s not looking good for Team Liquid! The former super team has failed to qualify for the upcoming playoffs in the current Spring Split. And this despite the fact that they strengthened themselves with a world champion before the start of the season.
Normally, Team Liquid has a season ticket for the playoffs. But this year, the former MSI finalists failed to live up to their own expectations, finishing eighth in the table, albeit by an extremely narrow margin.
World champions signed, still no playoffs
Last year, the Korean eSports organisation DRX won the League of Legends World Championship final. Accordingly, it should come as no surprise that the individual players aroused covetousness, especially as they showed a willingness to change.
That ends our playoffs run. We want to thank all of you for truly supporting us and helping keep our spirits high.
We’re looking towards the future.

Team Liquid has had great success over the years with former World Champion Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, who moved from the LCK to America in the LCS back in 2018. Without further ado, they decided to sign DRX jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon. Liquid also announced the additions of Harry “Haeri” Kang, Park “Summit” Woo-tae and Sean “Yeon” Sung.
Restart? False start!
However, this all-round revamp was not to bring the hoped-for success. In the end, several factors were responsible for their failure to qualify for the playoffs, but most importantly, inconsistent performances. In the end, Liquid had seven victories to show for its efforts, but in contrast, it suffered ten defeats. One too many, of all things.
This means that Team Liquid is once again forced to question the decisions it has made. Although the team still finished in third place in the Spring Split 2022, the team missed out on qualifying for the World Championship at the Summer Playoffs – the declared goal for the tradition-rich eSports organisation.
