MOUZ is one of the most traditional organisations in CS:GO. But this year the omens are a little different.
In amateur football, it can sometimes happen that the first team falls behind the second. However, this situation has now also occurred in CS:GO – and even with the professional team MOUZ.
Although MOUZ has always been among the world’s best in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, its performance potential was still written in the stars at the beginning of the year. In the meantime, the actual professional team around the renowned newcomer Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt and the young star David “frozen” Čerňanský has even been overtaken by the second team in the rankings. We explain why.
Reasons for slipping in the rankings
According to the international CS:GO scene site HLTV, MOUZ is now only ranked 23rd in Europe. In the new HLTV ranking from Monday, the German organisation has lost six places. As a result, the pros have now slipped right behind their own academy team MOUZ NXT.
MOUZ has not yet participated in any relevant tournament in 2022. While other professional teams have played at the highest level at the BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022, the last time the mice hit the keys was in December 2021. At the Intel Extreme Masters Winter 2021, however, it was only enough for a shared 13th place. Because MOUZ had placed much better in the IEM Winter just under a year earlier, the point penalty from the earlier elimination has been even greater.
So the drop in rank of MOUZ, which is now only listed among the top 40 teams in the world, is due to a mixture of inactivity and an additional loss of rating from previously successfully played tournaments. Meanwhile, the Academy team led by German player Jon “JDC” de Castro has been busy playing in recent months. Thanks to several victorious matches in the WePlay Academy League Season 3, the second guard has also collected a decent amount of points this year and could thus place itself just ahead of the main team in the rankings.

Nonetheless, despite the unusual line-up, the ranking is currently an inventory for MOUZ. “The line-up has great potential,” frozen said via Twitter last. Next week, Tuesday, MOUZ will finally start the new esport year. The play-in stage for the IEM Katowice 2022 is the first important tournament of the year. The first match will be against GODSENT. In order to rise significantly in the rankings again, MOUZ needs to qualify for the main round. Otherwise, there is the threat of a further drop in the ranking for the time being.
