The release of the successor to the eSports classic Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is imminent. We reveal which new features you can look forward to.

On 22 March, Counter-Strike 2 was announced out of nowhere. On Twitter, the announcement for the Limited Test of the game was posted, which has since generated a lot of attention for the franchise.

CS 2 will be the sequel to CS:GO, one of the biggest eSports titles of all time, released in 2012. The game has influenced many other games since its release, including Valorant and Overwatch.

Counter-Strike 2: What’s New!

The release of the tactical shooter is planned by Valve for summer 2023 and is to replace its predecessor with a seamless transition. Innovations such as map overhauls or map upgrades bring a much-needed freshness to the game. In addition, outdated map textures and problem areas have been reworked or even completely recreated.

The engine that runs the game is also new. Currently, the heart of Counter-Strike: GO is the Source engine, which has been around since 2004. With the implementation of the Source 2 engine, which is already used in titles such as Dota2 or Half-Life: Alyx, Valve optimises the tick rate system and offers better performance at the same time.

What other changes are planned is currently still unclear. These will only be shown to the fans in the final version.

What happens to the skins?

FIFA principle or Overwatch 2? We can reassure you about the skin issue. All skins will of course also be available in CS 2. The items will simply be transferred in a Steam-typical way and can be used as before.

Only a few visual bugs occurred in the beta test, but these will presumably be fixed on the day of release.
