An industrious tinkerer has gone wild in the Unreal Engine 5 and recreated popular maps from CS:GO. You can even download the result and try it out for yourself
Another Unreal Engine 5 demo is making the rounds. This time a hobbyist has taken two of the most popular maps from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and recreated them with the new technology framework from Epic.
But this time it’s not enough to just look at them. You can even download the demo on the Discord channel Custom-Strike and wander through the familiar, yet somehow new-looking alleys yourself. Just see for yourself:
True classics in a new look
For his project, the developer has chosen the two maps Dust 2 and Inferno. Both maps have already been on board since the legendary first in the series and can look forward to a correspondingly large number of fans.
Effortful remake: Instead of just slapping together assets from the Unreal Store, the creator has visibly made an effort to come as close as possible to the original. Even the smallest corners of the winding maps have been recreated, but also prominent places such as the gateways on Dust 2, which function as bottlenecks, are instantly recognisable – only the chickens running around on Inferno are missing.
The result receives a lot of praise: On YouTube, most viewers are convinced by what is shown. Unsurprisingly, many are taken with the modern look. However, there is also criticism, primarily of the illumination of the levels. The lighting is much too bright and makes it difficult to perceive small details. The creator should also do some work on the colouring.
The project is becoming more ambitious
By the way, the original plan to simply port the CS:GO maps is not to remain. The developer has already announced that he will push the project further under the name “RTX CS:GO”. In addition to more maps, this will also include further features – including multiplayer battles on the ported maps.
By the way, the well-known watchtower near Weißlauf from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has already been ported to UE5 – no wonder, after all, one of the first battles against a dragon takes place there. The result makes us dream of a remake of Sky’s Edge.
