With EQUIPA, BIG has an all-female team at the start in CS:GO. The roster around Captain Aidy wants to mix up the female scene.

In addition to its long and successful history in the men’s Counter-Strike scene, Berlin International Gaming (BIG for short) has also strengthened itself with a roster of female players in May 2022. The Iberian mix has already completed one major tournament together. In an interview with captain Aida “Aidy” Garcia, we were able to find out more about upcoming competitions as well as the team and the female scene in general.

This is BIG EQUIPA

The decision to join the Berlin organisation was very easy for the team, Aidy says. Especially the success in Counter-Strike and the related experience at BIG were decisive for the cooperation in the end. In addition, BIG made the best offer among all interested parties, Aidy tells us. In the end, two parties with the same passion found each other.

While some female teams were already crumbling, the ESL has revived the scene by announcing new tournament formats. Team EQUIPA reunited as a result and later decided on BIG. The core of the team had already played together two years ago and therefore knew each other very well.

Overall, Aidy describes her team as very methodical, almost perfectionist. Not only is the Aim a characteristic that makes the team, but also their very tactical approach. This is also where experienced coach and ex-professional Jonathan “MusambaN1” Torrent comes into play, feeding the team with important information on and off the server.

The position of women in esports

Although the treatment of women in esports is improving and there is a noticeable increase in outside support, the situation is complicated, Aidy explains. The lack of maturity in dealing with female players is a particular problem. Disrespectful comments are unfortunately part of the daily routine.

Despite all the negativity, you have to show a strong mentality and not let yourself be influenced too easily. Even if things don’t go your way sometimes, you should show patience and perseverance. “Never stop, never leave the dreams, pursue what makes you happy” is a motivational saying that she gives to young players in particular.

Role models from the scene can also help them not to lose sight of their goal. Aidy herself names a total of four favourite players whom she looks up to. They include Get_RiGhT, Snax, Fallen and zAAz, who have inspired her and taught her many tricks of the trade.

Future plans of the team

After the finals of the ESL Impact League, BIG EQUIPA already has the next tournament coming up. On 01.07, some of the players will travel back home, where another ESL Impact tournament awaits them in Valencia. Similar to Dallas, eight very strong teams of the scene will compete against each other here.

The tournament is followed by a break in which each player can enjoy a little rest and relaxation. Nevertheless, during this time, eyes are already on the other competitions to follow. A Dreamhack event in Sweden, the new season of the ESEA League as well as other national and international formats are coming up. The schedule is pretty full in any case. Apparently, the female scene is slowly getting back on track.
