Gangs of Night City is the name of a new Kickstarter project that brings Cyberpunk 2077 back to life – as a physical board game. And the description is actually quite reminiscent of the PC role-playing game: You control your character (as a Netrunner or battle-hardened Solo, for example) through the districts of the metropolis, smuggle weapons, complete missions and, of course, get into a fight or two.

The focus is on the gangs we already know from the game, such as the Japanese Tyger Claws or the tech freaks from Maelstrom. Many figures from the PC game and the lore are available as miniatures, but some are limited bonuses for supporters. Gangs of Night City only exists on paper so far, the project is currently being presented on Kickstarter – but has already more than doubled its funding goal shortly after its launch, which is absolutely normal for a campaign of this size and a pretty bad pace for the manufacturer CMON compared to its previous projects. Of course, the board game will still be produced, including a manual, playing cards, tokens and so on.

If you want to support: You have to invest 105 Euros to get the game plus some goodies as a reward for your support. This is the only pledge available for the campaign.

Release and shipping to Kickstarter backers is planned for July 2023 and can be worldwide, according to the official project page. Don’t have any board game-savvy friends? Never mind, you can also play Gangs of Night City on your own.

Note: Shipping costs and VAT taxes are added to the 105 euros for the game. For Europe, the manufacturer CMON gives a shipping estimate of around 48 to 62 euros, but in past CMON campaigns the actual costs were significantly higher, which is why CMON is currently facing a lot of criticism.

If the base game is enough for you and you can do without all the kickstarter-exclusive stretch goals, then just buy the game later at your local board game shop, that will save you a lot of money. Otherwise, just back the project with the minimum amount of one dollar and wait to see what the actual additional costs are before making your final decision
