A new mod delivers the much desired Metro system for Night City. Atmosphere junkies should definitely check it out.

Whatever you think of Cyberpunk 2077 as a game, almost everyone agrees on one thing: Night City is a stunning setting. The gloomy juggernaut in neon glow invites you to leave all the quests behind and go exploring instead. Many players urgently want new features that allow for even more immersion – but at the moment it looks like the developers will need a long time to do this.

This is exactly where the eager modding community steps in and keeps delivering impressive additions: A new Metro mod now adds a complete rail system that transports you far above the dirty streets through Night City. Even the locked stations can now be accessed. We tried out the mod ourselves and explain why you should definitely have it on your radar if you want to dive deeper into the cyberpunk feeling.

What the Metro Mod offers

What is it? This mod by NexusGuy999 adds 19 hand-built metro stations where you can board the NCART. You should easily find the points on the map, it always says “Metro”. You then whiz through the various districts of Night City on rails. At the touch of a button you can switch between third-person and first-person perspectives, just like driving a car.

How’s the air up there? Probably pretty bad in NC, but the view is all the better for it. We tried the mod on a reasonably strong PC (RTX 3070) and had hardly any problems with elements popping up or texture errors. Only sometimes are there short jerks, but they are hardly noticeable. The player feedback on the mod has also been very positive so far – so serious bugs are not to be expected.

From above, you can clearly see how much design work has actually gone into this metropolis: sometimes we rattle over huge mountains of rubbish, then we drive through the clouds of smoke from factory chimneys, and finally we land in the rich districts and glide between glass skyscrapers. Many details can only be recognised from this perspective – probably because a metro was originally planned by CDPR. Be sure to turn on the fantastic in-game radio, then you can really immerse yourself in the dense cyberpunk atmosphere.

The rides are real-time and allow you to stare out the window for as long as you like. Those who have always remained seated during the game’s taxi rides will definitely feel at home here as well. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to try out how the mod looks in the rain yet (because it just didn’t want to rain in our score), but during the day and at night the view is really cool:

Where and how can I download it? You can find the mod (here at Nexusmods for free download). It’s best to download it manually and then unpack the file in your Cyberpunk folder (where you also find /archive). Also note that you must have installed these two mods beforehand:

* CET (Cyber Engine Tweaks)
* (Native Settings UI)

Important: Currently the mod apparently causes the normal fast travel to stop working. So deactivate it if you want to jump from blue dot to blue dot again. In the mod settings you can also adjust how much a trip costs and how fast the metro moves.

What do you think of the Metro mod? Did you miss the ride system? Does something like this give you more immersion? Let us know in the comments!
