The next major update will supposedly be a “soft relaunch” and include several DLCs, but the leak is on very shaky ground.

Update (3 January, 5 p.m.): CD Projekt has meanwhile denied to us that the big leak is correct information. So you should not take the leak at face value, but wait for the official announcements in the near future.

Original post
: Is a small relaunch of Cyberpunk 2077 coming soon? An alleged insider is claiming that right now, without providing any evidence though. According to the anonymous source, patch 1.5 is supposed to have a lot of new features. It has been officially known for a few weeks that the next update will be very big.

Now concrete information is said to have leaked out about what is in it. Many urgent fan wishes are supposed to be fulfilled soon – but there are good reasons to doubt the credibility of the update.

Caution, unconfirmed info!

The leak is currently shared by well-known industry insiders such as Okami Games, but cannot be verified. It originally came from an anonymous source on 4chan. Some of the information matches earlier announcements by CD Projekt, others are logical conclusions, but in our opinion some of it simply sounds made up. We have not received a statement from the developers.
As soon as an official announcement about Patch 1.5 is made, you will of course be the first to read it here.

What is supposedly in Patch 1.5?

According to the alleged leak, which comes from an unnamed “insider” and has since been widely shared, there are a lot of important new features in the patch. Some of them are features that players have been wanting for a long time.

That’s why Cyberpunk 2077 is even supposed to be renamed “Samurai Edition”, i.e. get a soft relaunch. Read the entire list here on Reddit:

A summary of the most important (alleged) changes:

  • Hairdressers
  • Transmog system
  • my own garage
  • revised AI and loot systems
  • several free DLCs with new weapons, flat customization, New Game+ and more

Particularly transmog, a better AI and a garage for purchased cars are what many fans have been wishing for since the release. Up to now, it has mainly been tireless modders who have taken on such features. Some of them are now officially working together with CDPR.

You really don’t have to be an insider to conclude, based on CD Projekt’s statements and work so far, that they are probably working on these things. Whether all of this will be implemented with Update 1.5, however, is another story.

The alleged revelations about the expansion, which CDPR claims to be working on at the moment, seem much bolder – but it will only appear after patch 1.5. The big addon is supposed to focus on the district of Pacifica, which seems obvious since this area is still relatively undeveloped in the main game.

According to the leak, a new “Combat Zone” will be created in Pacifica, where two new gangs will fight for supremacy, the “Psycho Clowns” Bozos and the group “Slaughterhouse”.

Both gangs also exist in the pen&paper template, so in principle their appearance would not be far-fetched. According to the alleged leak, the combat zone should feel “inspired by Stalker”. But there is no exact explanation.

From this point on, we too doubt the credibility of the leak, since in terms of gameplay Cyberpunk has about as much to do with Stalker as the Maelstrom gang has to do with horticulture.

What else does the alleged leak say? Allegedly Cyberpunk 2077 will get its own mini-game – something similar to Gwent for The Witcher 3. It will be about virtual monsters in cyberspace that you send into JRPG battles. According to the source, the mini-game will even have a multiplayer component. This would fit in well with earlier statements by CDPR, according to which they are no longer planning standalone multiplayer, but multiplayer components.

If you are waiting for the announced cyberpunk anime Edgerunners, the leak also announces good news: It is said to look incredibly good and to be reminiscent of the classic Akira. Here’s what we know officially about Edgerunners so far:

How credible is all this?

Without knowing the source, it is of course almost impossible to judge its credibility. Some of the information sounds quite coherent, especially with regard to the small DLCs, transmog, revised AI and more customisation options.

But it is more than questionable whether there are really so many serious changes in a single patch. So far, the updates have brought rather small innovations (and many bug fixes). CDPR has always emphasised that major changes to an open world are a huge challenge because everything is interconnected.

Accordingly, most of the comments on (Reddit) and (Twitter) are sceptical: To some, the leak sounds “too good to be true”. Some also fundamentally doubt that CDPR will deliver such large features and believe that the developers will instead concentrate fully on the paid expansion. At the last quarterly report, the studio remained quite vague about the future:

Even more difficult to assess is the alleged new mini-game. It is not clear from the leak when it is to appear at all, whether it is directly in the Pacifica expansion or merely planned at some point.

When will Patch 1.5 be released? The big update does not yet have a concrete release date, according to the official roadmap it is planned for the 1st quarter of 2022. We’ll let you know as soon as we have more information!
