It is possible to lock yourself out of the Phantom Liberty DLC in the very first missions. We explain what you should watch out for

Cyberpunk 2077 has received a lot of new story content with the huge expansion Phantom Liberty . The DLC should easily keep you busy for thirty hours or more – unless you get too stupid in the first mission. Then you will miss most of the new content.

We won’t go into details about characters and story in this article, so you don’t need to worry about any serious spoilers.

This is how you fail in the DLC for good

Phantom Liberty starts after you complete the main quest with the Voodoo Boys gang (“Transmission”). Or you can start the DLC directly from the main menu. In either case, you should get a call directly from the new character Songbird, who enters the quest “Dog Eat Dog” into your journal. This will start the main story of Phantom Liberty.

After a short time you will be given the task of rescuing President Myers from the NUSA. And this is where you can really mess up V’s future: If you dawdle too long during the car ride or want to do another quest first, you’ll fail the rescue and get to see a special cutscene with Johnny.

After that, the new story doesn’t continue. You can still look around Dogtown and do side quests there – but you’ll miss out on a lot of exciting events involving Songbird, Solomon Reed (Idris Elba’s character) and Johnny. So you’d better step on the gas!

There’s another way you can lock yourself out of the DLC: In the mission “Lucretia My Reflection” Reed asks you if you want to continue or if you’d rather disappear. If V insists on not wanting anything to do with the story, the mission will fail and you won’t be able to continue with the main story

What do I do if I get locked out of the main quest? Don’t worry, all is not lost, the game will automatically save for you before starting the “Hole in the Sky” mission. So just find the correct save game, reload and complete the mission as intended.

You should also urgently pay close attention in another place: In Cyberpunk 2077, after the huge 2.0 update, a certain line of dialog is bugged: It can shoot your entire save game.

Have you started Phantom Liberty yet? If so, did you have a little faux pas in the Myers quest or did you complete everything right away like in the textbook? Or are you waiting for the weekend or your next vacation to get started with the DLC? Feel free to post it in the comments!
