Cyberpunk 2077

We summarise the current status of patches, DLCs and more for Cyberpunk 2077 and go into the developers’ roadmap for the future of the game.

What’s next for Cyberpunk 2077? In a recent conference call, CD Projekt spoke in more detail about their future plans for 2021 in terms of patches and DLC.

In the call, the Cyberpunk makers confirmed that they are still working on the game and believe in its long-term success. We collect the most important statements for you here and add further information regarding the currently most reported problems and the return to the Playstation Store.

What’s in store for Cyberpunk 2077?

Multiple small DLCs coming in 2021
In the conference call, the developers reaffirmed that several smaller and free DLCs will be released throughout the year. It could be quite a while before the announced large expansions in the style of Witcher 3: Blood and Wine are released – depending on when and at what interval the small DLCs appear. No release dates have been given yet.

What content the free DLCs will have is not yet known exactly, an alleged leak was quickly denied by CDPR. Based on earlier statements by the developers, we expect small features instead of new story content, we hope for a transmog system, for example.

Apart from free updates, however, even bigger story expansions are planned for Cyberpunk 2077. Multiplayer is currently only a low priority for the developer.

It’s uncertain when the next update will come

After the small patch 1.23 it has become quiet again around Cyberpunk 2077. However, the developers have published a list with the most reported issues.

As soon as we have official information about patch 1.3 and further updates, we will let you know here. While the previous updates mainly brought bug fixes and technical improvements, the focus in the future will be more on increasing the quality.

By the way, there is an exciting graph of how the stability of Cyberpunk 2077 has improved since the release. With every patch released, the number of crashes briefly increases again, but according to CDPR this is only due to the download process itself. Overall, the crash rate has decreased:

How this affects the current state of the game overall, we analyse in our test update after the last big patch 1.2.

Work on Cyberpunk 2077 continues

Six months after the release, the developers are still actively working on Cyberpunk 2077, according to Kicinski currently still about half of the development team, around 300 people. Kicinski is confident about the future:

“Improving Cyberpunk 2077 remains our top priority. (…). We intend to deliver what we promised our players in January. While we are already seeing significant improvements, a large part of the team continues to work to ensure that Cyberpunk delivers even more entertainment to players. We firmly believe that the game will succeed in the long run.”

As well as the DLCs announced to enhance the gameplay experience, the NextGen version for consoles is also still on the cards. This is still scheduled for release in the second half of 2021, but there’s no more specific timeframe yet.

What about the PlayStation Shop? In the meantime, it has become known that Sony and CD Projekt have reached an agreement after months of negotiations. On 21 June 2021, the digital version of Cyberpunk 2077 returned to the PS Shop, so since that date you can buy it there again.

However, Sony immediately followed up with a warning: the return does not mean that the PS4 version has been repaired in the meantime; there will still be performance problems. Therefore, they recommend playing the game on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the time being.

Modders are also busy in Cyberpunk 2077: because many players have become impatient since the promised updates are not forthcoming, they simply help themselves. For example, by making the sneaking more realistic and the fights more difficult.
